We went here to celebrate my birthday and everything was wonderful! We're both vegetarians and the menu was great, for once we were spoilt for choice. Very attentive staff and a beautiful location.

We've just had the most spectacular few days at Linthwaite for my birthday and, quite honestly, I couldnt have asked for a more beautiful, peaceful, unhurried, romantic birthday if I'd spent a month of sundays thinking what I wanted! The setting is exquisite but we knew that from having researched it before hand. What we were unprepared for was the magnificent room we had! The view over the lake was quite the most magical image to wake up to and whilst the weather was very cold, (well, it is the Lake District in March so that was hardly a shock), it was bright each morning.
The food is fabulous! My partner fancies himself as quite the foodie so this was right up his street. The imagination that went into the presentation was beyond belief!
We didnt tell the hotel it was my birthday but I suspect, given the effort they went to for us and every other guest, it seemed to me that there could have been something very special arranged for me, had they known.
My personal criteria for a good hotel is non-negotiable: a good, firm, comfortable bed, hot showers, plenty of towels and peace and quiet! Check all those! The hotel was far from empty but we really didnt hear anyone once we had closed our door!
Thank you hugely from a very very happy and contented birthday girl!

my family and I stayed in this hotel for my brother in laws wedding, the hotel itself was situated in lovely grounds with well kept gardens to walk round and relax in. The hotel was gorgeous inside very tastefully decorated and felt very welcoming and relaxing. The staff were really helpful and friendly nothing was to much trouble for them. Our room was lovely, there was nothing at all that i could find fault with this hotel, we all really enjoyed out saty there .

We recently returned to Linthwaite House Hotel after a visit in January 2009, which was unfortunately marred by soiled blood stained bed linen. On this occasion, our initial experience was marred because of double booking of the room. We were eventually accommodated, but the bed linen appeared infested with insects which I believe were bed bugs. The hotel initially stated that this was the first time they had seen bed bugs in the hotel, but now denies that they were bed bugs. I remain firmly of the opinion that these were bed bug. The covers on the pillow cases were badly stained and covered in numerous hairs. The heater in the bathroom did not work, and it was suggested that they provided a free standing electric heater to place in the cold bathroom. I believe this would represent a serious health and safety risk and the offer was declined. No apology was provided whilst residing at the hotel, and no refund for distress and loss of pleasure has been forthcoming at the time of writing.
We are saddened by this experience and the hotel’s handling of our complaint, as otherwise the Hotel is an extremely pleasant, although the standard rooms are tiny, but the food is excellent.

There was a problem with the initial reservation which we acknowledge, but we managed to sort it out, provided the room as originally booked, AND (unacknowledged by Dr B in the post above) we provided a complimentary bottle of champagne to say sorry!

Bed Bugs: We took DR B's comments very seriously (as we do all comments) and asked Rentokil to check - they have done a thorough inspection, not once but twice; one on the Tuesday after the weekend Dr B stayed and one a week later to make sure.

They have found absolutely no evidence of any bed bugs; we have their report in writing. Claiming we have bed bugs without scientific evidence is, we feel, grossly unfair.

5th March 2009: we were inspected by the Environmental Health Authority who gave us a 5 star (out of a possible 5) rating for our hygiene management.

Spent 2 nights at Linthwaite over Valentines weekend. The welcome was plesant and profesional and we were in our room within 5 minutes. The hotel and grounds are well kept and modern whilst still keeping a lot of original features. The service for dinner was exceptional, with entrees served in the lounge when we came down for dinner, allowing us to select from the menu at our leisure, before being invited through for dinner when our meal was ready. The food was excelent, and left the table very happy both evenings. I would go back again, but only for a special occasion as it is expensive.

We only had a short stay but it will live in my memory probably forever. The setting is the Lake District at its best, the accomodation to die for, the food superb and the staff discreet but somehow right there when needed, nothing was too much trouble.
We attended a wedding which again couldn't have been better, everything ran very smoothly and was made more magical by the setting and the attention to detail provided by the staff. So if you just want a few days or longer away or you want to celebrate something special, then you will not be disappointed with the Linthwaite. It is also very easy to find and within easy reach of Windermere village and other amenities.

Nothing but praise for hotel - very friendly, comfortable, great balance of modern and traditional - but the absolute star of the stay was the food. Beautiful, delicious, special - a great birthday night with friends. Just a shame we couldn't check out the new loft suite (with retracting roof) as some lucky person already in it!

Would definitely recommend.
