The hotel was superb and we stayed there for our honeymoon for three days.it is spotlessly clean, with the bathroom being of a particularly high standard. The view from bedroom 4 is exceptional as you look over the lake. The grounds are maintained really well, yet still leaving that little bit of ruralness that makes you think you are the first to discover it....magic.We particularly liked the fact the hotel had a folder of lots of different walks, many of which could be achieved from the hotel itself and not requiring the use of the car.We will definitely be back for an anniversary......or two.

What a little gem! the Linthwaite House Hotel promotes itself as a luxury small hotel which prides itself on excellent food, service and location, how true. We went for a short summer break and wished we could have stayed longer, can't wait for a return visit. Found all staff friendly and helpful and enjoyed exploring the extensive garden /grounds. Fantastic hotel for that special occasion.

We stayed for 2 nights at Linthwaite House on a summer price offer, (you had to stay 2 nights and have dinner on 1 night). It is worth looking out for offers as it is not a cheap hotel but a very comfortable, relaxed place.
The view from the terrace is magnificent. It overlooks Lake Windermere surrounded by trees and in the distance tiny villages can be seen. We enjoyed and were lucky enough to have the weather to be able to sit with coffee or a glass of wine in the calmness and peace of the place.
They have 14/15 acres of gardens with a tarn at the top. A very tranquil spot. Perfect to walk and enjoy the views.
Our room was average size with a bathroom. It was comfortable, clean and overlooking the back garden. In the bathroom there were Molton Brown toiletries.
The food was delicious - not a huge plateful - more like Michelin star style, beautifully cooked and thought out. The dining room is very comfortable and elegant. All the rooms are comfortable and the staff are caring and considerate but not intrusive.
If you wish a quiet, restful break or wish to push the boat out for somewhere special, Linthwaite is ideal. Do not expect entertainment, music or loud groups, most were reserved, quiet couples.

We travelled to Linthwaite courtesy of the in-laws who had bought us some holiday vouchers to use, and took our dog with us, as the hotel is advertised as being dog friendly.

The grounds: Beautiful setting, overlooking the lake, and very peaceful. The gardener has made a wonderful job of ensuring the grounds are well maintained, and mown pathways in and around the hotel. The tarn was pretty, and there were chairs and benches dotted around to make the most of the views. As we had such good weather I noticed people laying on the lawn with pots of tea - looked like an idyllic was to spend an afternoon

The room: We had a preferred room with its own access - one of two rooms they allow dogs to stay in. The bed was large and enough room for two plus Max the rather large labrador. The bathroom was not big, but it was adequate. However, for £300 B&B we felt that this was really overpriced compared to other places that we have stayed. I would not have wanted to stay ina cheaper room, if they were smaller than the one we had.

The food: Unfortunately, we were unable to eat at the hotel, as we did not want to leave the dog in the room, and they were unable to serve dinner on the terrace for us, so instead drove to a very dog friendly pub - the Watermill Inn at Ings. Breakfast was a decadent affair, and very good though.

The service: We had booked the hotel through an agency, but had to liaise direct with them about the dog-friendly room, and they were very quick to respond. They were very welcoming upon arrival and when we requested a fan for the very hot room (no air con) we received one within minutes. All the staff were friendly and I felt as though they would have tried to meet any request.

Overall: This would be a great hotel, if you are a couple and could lounge around and have afternoon tea - it all looked lovely. It is quiet and refined, and I ended up whispering to the dog, when taking him around the grounds.

As for dog-friendly, I'm not sure. I would say dog-tolerant maybe. Whilst they offer leads, towels etc (which is a lovely touch), Max wasn't welcomed anywhere other than the garden. When I asked about taking him onto the terrace, the answer was yes, as long as he didn't bother anyone. I completely understand that they need to ensure that all their clientele are happy, but would like to think that the type of visitor to this hotel, like us, would not dream of letting their dog bothering anyone.

Would we go back - yes if it was not so expensive, and we were on our own (sorry pooch!)

We have a very young family (an under one, and a 2.5 year old) and not only do they do a great job of being flexible for us, but sensitive to the other guests, who might NOT want to watch parents wait out a tantrum.

This was a superb place. Not only were they happy to serve us (the adults) a four course meal in our rooms, but they wordlessly kept coming up to bring us sherry and anything else we thought of after the fact that we might like.

If I was independantly wealthy I'd be there every weekend.
