We stayed a week and found the Belsfield to be ideally located for local facilities and access into the Lake District. Ample car parking is a bonus. The room was spacious with a good view onto Lake Windermere, and the bathroom, with walk-in shower rather than a bath, was adequate. A disadvantage was the noise from the extractor fan in the adjoining room, especially when an inconsiderate guest leaves it on for hours. Breakfast was good, although the fried eggs were sometimes perhaps too long on the buffet, and the staff at reception and in the dining room were friendly and helpful. We would consider staying again.

Room Tip: Not all rooms have a lake view - need to ask.

Many thanks for your comments. We will investigate the bathroom fan and review fried eggs at breakfast. Look forward to welcoming you back in the future

Stopped here for a wedding in October, the location is excellect, luckily the weather was great and we could sit out on the lawn with a fantastic view of the lake.

When we arrived my daughter had a second floor room, it was ok but she found it inacessible with the small lift and the grand daughters pushchair, we asked for a change which they did with no problems at all.

Rooms were good apart from the bathroom which was a little small, but they were spotless and the beds very comfy.

The hotel provided the food for the reception and it was excellent quality, if this is the standard, I would eat in if I stopped again, breakfast was excellent and the staff were very attentive, they could not do enough for you.

I couldn't tell you about the value as the future stepdad paid for the rooms!! drinks were priced as you expect in a hotel.

All in all and excellent run hotel with dedicated staff, my thanks to the night staff at the bar who closed at a 'reasonable time' (when we decided to go to bed sometime in the early hours!!)

Would definitely recommend for a nice weekend or a base for discovering the lakes.

Room Tip: A lake view would make it even more special

A superb hotel. Views over the lake, friendly staff, a superb retreat. Horribly expensive but worth every penny

Room Tip: Save up and go for it!

We had booked a double lakeside view room which was expensive. On arrival we were allocated room 52 which was an average size room with a lake view, but the bathroom only had a shower (no bath) and the room was more the size of a 'broom cupboard'. As we were staying for 3 nights this was totally unacceptable, especially as we paying £525. for 3 nights B/B. We complained and were given a free upgrade to room 66 which was a four poster bed room. Not a large bed but average comfort. The room was dual aspec and was far better. It had a proper size bathroom as well.

The Reception staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful in every way. The same goes for the staff at breakfast. The rate included a full English breakfast and this with the continental was again average. The only 5* were the staff.

The hotel needs a good redecoration and attention in many places, and there is no excuse for this not being done at the 4-5* prices they charge for what is really a 3* hotel. The swimming pool is a good size.

The main advantage of this hotel is its location by Lake Windermere and Bowness, excellent staff, Victorian build and history, and a very pleasant place to stay, and if you are happy with paying their nightly rates you will not be disapointed.

The Hotel should spend money on redecorating and refurbishing the 'tired' areas both indoors and outside. Our free upgraded room was appreciated and enabled us to have a very pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Choose a lakeside view room, otherwise there is no advantage in stopping at this hotel compared to others in Bowness. However if you require a normal size bathroom with bath and shower ensure your room has this especially if you are staying more than one night.

Have just returned from a fabulous weekend at The Belsfield in Bowness. Hotel is an old Victorian House with amazing views of Windermere and Bowness Bay. We stayed 2 nights and were happy with the standard of the room. We used the swimming pool and sauna which were both lovely. The breakfast was a buffett with all the full english options available. High standard of food (apart from the powdered scambled eggs). Location couldnt be more perfect. Walk into Bowness is 5 minutes. Having stayed at several of the BB's and hotels in the area i would rate The Belsfield as the nicest ive stayed at. If you look really hard you may notice 1 or 2 places that need a lick of paint but thats all part of the charm of such a place...
Would also heartily reccomend Port restaurant in Bowness. Had a fantastic meal in there.
Will definately be back to The Belsfield!

Room Tip: Book a lake view!
