“money going missing from the room”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2009

when i booked the hotel for a surprise birthday weekend away for me and my partner at a price of £125 per night i was looking forward to it. when we arrived and so the building from outside i was impressed and so was my partner. when we went to our room and opened the door my face dropped because i was dissapointed. i was expecting alot more for my money and alot more modern. the bath room was horrible and needs to be ripped out and a new modern suite put in. we then left to go to conistan for the day to climb the old man mountain. my partner left her handbag on the dressing table. when coming back to the hotel we went for a walk aroung windermere and when my partner opened her bag to pay for a gift she was buying all her money had been stolen. it was obviously someone who works at the hotel so it spoilt the weekend. so i would never go back to the hotel because i could never trust the place again. it does though have a great location. thats the only good thing about the hotel

We love the lakes especially bowness and visit regularily as we have family in windermere. We love to sit outside the Belsfield - weather permitting, and the view is fantastic. The staff are extremely friendly. However, the hotel needs to update the menu -for people passing by. Have not ate in the restaurant but 'casual' menu needs updating as you can get a bit fed up with stale bread with beef and mustard! It is in a fantastic setting, someone needs to give somebody somewhere a kick up the **** and look into the 21st century without losing the originality.

My boyfriend & I stayed at this hotel, it cost us just under £50 pp pn it was well worth it, the rooms were spotless, breakfast was beautiful, staff were very courteous & polite. We thought the hotel & grounds were very beautiful & picturesque.

unrivalled location, fab lake view but very expensive for old building, old furniture, creaking floors and extremely old bathrooms. we were charged 165 english pounds for one night in a suite . it was our honeymoon and we were so son dissappointed .we didnt even stay for breakfast.

We are getting married at The Belsfield next year and stayed in the hotel last week to choose our menu and meet the staff. The general manager is superb and all the staff looked after our every need. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area, especially if you are looking for a place with character, charm, lovely welcoming staff and possibly the best view from a hotel in the Lake District.

The rooms in the Hotel are in desperate need of refurbishment for the money you pay. If you are a disabled person make sure you ask for a ground floor room otherwise you will have a problem getting to an upstarirs room. If fact the elevator is so old fastioned you can only get 3 people in it and forget about a wheelchair. The bar area and restaurent are nice but the meals are not that good apart from the breakfast. We ordered garlic prawns (7 people) for our evening meal and we had to send them back as they were not cooked so that was the last time we had food there. Unless they update the rooms i would never go back. The rooms on the web site are not what they are when you see then. Infact i would not advise anyone to stay there. Believe me

We have just returned from a 2 night break at The Belsfield. There was 10 of us in our party and when we booked it and checked the website out we were impressed..however when we arrived we were quite shocked to see that the inside of the hotel does not look as nice as the outside. The bar area..restaurant and rooms could all do with a revamp. The bedrooms are quite foisty smelling and the furniture and bed linen are very old, infact don't think the mattresses have been replaced since this place opened...it was like sleeping on a bed of marbles. The shower..was more of a drip than a power shower! If considering staying here...please think again there is lots of other nice hotels and b&b's to stay at. I would not stay here again.
