We were apprehensive about reviews however we were pleasently surprised. Stayed in a recently redecorated family room with our two young children. We were not the only family there. The games room was a plus for the children and use of the warm swimming pool was just great. In talking with families who had been there before it was evident the hotel has been redecorated in many areas this year. The friendliness of the staff was a bonus and we could not fault the hotel in any way.We would have no hesitation in going back.

Drove into bowness looking for a place to stay for a relaxing two days,it was the first place we saw . Impressive from outside with spectacular views but a different story inside. The bedroom was clean but bed linen was torn, shower area had cracked tiles and mould , shower itself took ages to get started. As we had not paid the extra £20 per night supplement for a lake view our room was at the back of the hotel over looking the central heating pipes, this was very noisy in the early part of the evening also early morning, so noisy in fact that we couldn't keep the window open.Generally other areas were shabby, breakfast was ok, staff were mostly efficient but not particularly friendly.Much to expensive. Wish we had looked at other places first

I travelled with my Aunt for a weekend break and were initally very pleased wih the location, the hotel sits in best position in Bowness with beautiful views and is really handy for all the tourist activities. We were disappointed that our room was in the extension and we didn't really get the lake view we had paid for. However the room was lovely and clean and newly refurbished. The staff were ok, they appeared to do what was necessary but were reluctant to go any further. The hotel was overall in pretty poor repair and there was lots of areas which didn't really live up to the website, more attention to cleaning and general house keeping could really make the difference.
I would return for the fantastic location as long as i booked a refurbished room and just put up with the lack of attention to detail.

when i booked the hotel for a surprise birthday weekend away for me and my partner at a price of £125 per night i was looking forward to it. when we arrived and so the building from outside i was impressed and so was my partner. when we went to our room and opened the door my face dropped because i was dissapointed. i was expecting alot more for my money and alot more modern. the bath room was horrible and needs to be ripped out and a new modern suite put in. we then left to go to conistan for the day to climb the old man mountain. my partner left her handbag on the dressing table. when coming back to the hotel we went for a walk aroung windermere and when my partner opened her bag to pay for a gift she was buying all her money had been stolen. it was obviously someone who works at the hotel so it spoilt the weekend. so i would never go back to the hotel because i could never trust the place again. it does though have a great location. thats the only good thing about the hotel

We love the lakes especially bowness and visit regularily as we have family in windermere. We love to sit outside the Belsfield - weather permitting, and the view is fantastic. The staff are extremely friendly. However, the hotel needs to update the menu -for people passing by. Have not ate in the restaurant but 'casual' menu needs updating as you can get a bit fed up with stale bread with beef and mustard! It is in a fantastic setting, someone needs to give somebody somewhere a kick up the **** and look into the 21st century without losing the originality.
