Night receptionist very understanding and cooperative to satisfy guests preferences..spacious room old fashioned well maintained furniture, wide windows (only in old building) showing one of the most marvelous nature views.no safety box.no minibar..nice breakfast buffet includes freshly prepared vegetarian choices served in friendly professional attitude.very cooperative concierge.

Room Tip: Choose an old building room for wide marvelous view

We stayed in this well established hotel right on the lake at Windermere for just one night DBB. Parking is restricted near the hotel although they do offer valet parking and there is a huge hotel car park 100 yards away.
Our room was magnificent for the price and felt like a small suite with fantastic lake views and a big comfy bed.
The dinner in the evening was truly wonderful fine dining and good value. Sadly breakfast did not live up to the very high dinner standards, the service was very slow and the quality of food quite average. However the staff in general were very helpful and smiling so this poor finish to our stay did not detract too much.

stayed here for our wedding anniversary at the end of august. What can I say we are both quite fussy travellers and except a good standard of room, service, and food where ever we go. This hotel surpassed good in all areas - it was fantastic. The room with a lake view was amazing it had a lovely comfortable canopied bed, seating area over looking the lake, beautiful bathroom and a fancy coffee machine. Basically all the benefits of a luxury hotel with a few extra's thrown in for good measure. The food in the restaurant was of a high standard with a good amount of choice. The spa and setting of this hotel is one of the best in the lake district. What makes this special place stand out though for me is the staff. Nothing is too much trouble making you feel at home and special without being over-bearing. WELL DONE OLD ENGLAND we have the added bonus that your practically on our door-step so I'm certain we will be back.

I have just returned from a two night stay at this hotel with my wife and two children. Starting with the positives: The room we had was very large and clean. All the staff were very friendly, polite and helpful. The hotel is in a great location close to the lake and all the shops and restaurants in Bowness. We enjoyed breakfast and the tables are cleverly arranged to give as many people as possible a view out over lake Windermere. The pool was warm and a good size. Even the price was not too bad given that we stayed during half term.

Negatives: We paid for a dinner, bed and breakfast rate. This actually meant that we got an allowance of £28 per adult against the restaurant menu. Unfortunately due to the prices this means that it is impossible to have a three course meal without needing to pay something extra. Also I did not realise that the children did not have any allowance and dinner had to be paid for as taken. A three course child's meal is £15 which is a lot given that my daughter's starter was cheese on toast at £4 and both children simply had two scoops of ice cream for pudding again at £4 each. The main problem with the restaurant for us was not the cost but the length of time it took to get any food. We had a table booked at 6.30. We were around 10 minutes late but were still one of the first tables in the restaurant to be occupied. We ordered promptly but did not get our starters for 45 minutes. Even then my wife's starter came 5 minutes after the other three. Then there was a similar wait for the main courses. When the puddings came the children's ice creams were mixed up. Instead of being one bowl of chocolate and one bowl vanilla both bowls had one scoop of each! Explaining to the staff what the problem was also took several minutes as many of them seem to be European. We finished at around 9 p.m. which is just too late when you have small children. The food we received was good enough but the delay really spoiled the meal as the children became bored and tired. Despite having already paid extra for the dinner allowance we decided on the second night to eat out at a local restaurant and were much happier. I would stay at the hotel again but on a bed and breakfast basis only.
