Our room at the Old England was superb with an ultra modern bathroom nearly as big as the enormous bedroom with a large balcony from which a commanding view of the lake could be enjoyed. Housekeeping was of an immaculate standard and rarely can a guest have felt more pampered by such a friendly staff. Much appreciated were the little extras like a complimentary glass of champagne served in your room in the late afternoon or concierge car parking and retrieval at any time of the night or day.
What is letting this hotel down however is a miniscule and seemingly unchanging dinner-time menu. Imagine a two rosette hotel having only one fish and one vegetarian choice , or a lamb shank so bland that it was almost tasteless. If you like steak and chips you'll be fine however. Also although the staff were friendly there was a certain lack of professionalism in their presentation and not enough evidence of leadership if the restaurant. We have stayed before when the food was far better both in terms of quality and choice and the staff likewise were more impressive. Breakfast was great though and we would certainly stay again on a B&B basis.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the lake

We popped in for lunch on a sunny Sunday, hoping that the pleasant-looking hotel would be a welcome haven from the hoards of people eating at variable standards of coffee shops.
Unfortunately, we were very disappointed by the food. Highly over-priced, we would at least have accepted the inflated holiday town prices if the food was decent. It wasn't. My large Caesar salad (£15.95- I was expecting great things) was a plate of pathetic-looking Italian (?!) lettuce, some cold chicken (quite clearly pre-cooked and been in the fridge for a while) and dressing which just tasted like mayonnaise, with a cursory sprinkle of greasy croutons and grated Parmesan. Possibly the worst Caesar salad I've ever eaten- and I have eaten a lot of salads!
Would recommend staying away. Service not great either.
What a waste of money- I didn't even nearly finish my food.
Big thumbs down.

Lovely hotel looking out onto the lake. Was a little worried after reading other people's reviews but we had a fab stay. The hotel has valet parking which was great. Room lovely and spacious and very clean. We spent the afternoon in the spa, used the pool and steam rooms then had a back massage. We ate in the restaurant which was lovely overlooking the lake, food was delicious, staff couldn't be more helpful, we didn't rise early enough for breakfast but would defiantly recommend and would love to stay again.

Was given a lovely room overlooking the lake. Superb view. Good conference facilities and porter service to park your car.
Sunny day so drank on the roof terrace after work. The view was spectacular.
Breakfast was immaculate and waiter served and cooked to order.

We spent the night of June 6 here with our travel group. We had a huge room in the older section which was wonderful! We didn't have the large picture windows that those staying in the annex had, but could find a lovely view out a small window. The food was good and well served. Breakfast had a wide variety to choose from. Great location to visit shops and sit by the lake. Would recommend to those seeking a nice get away.
