“Spa day.........”
Reviewed 6 July 2014 via mobile

We arrived at around 10am ish myself and my husband for a relaxing day to celebrate our anniversary.
Relaxing???????? Say the least!!! We had kids jumping in pool, screaming, throwing ice everywhere from the ice room!! We literally went in at got out within 15 mins!!
I went and complained as so disappointed. Never will we go there again! Over rated and pool tiny comparison to website pictures!
Shame

Stayed for One night on our way to scotland and we were impressed with the lakeview room which was very well equipped. The quality of food was very good and sitting on the verandah in the sun, overlooking the lake was a great way to spend the evening.

I have been going to the OE for many years and the Hotel and its staff are the best!
If you go to a Hotel such as this and order a drink from the bar then expect to pay Hotel prices! They are no different to anywhere else. The problem is that people generally do not know how to voice a complaint in a courteous way. If the food was inedible , which I doubt was the case then it would have been dealt with! There is always a porter on duty and they all work incredibly hard moving cars and taking up luggage to rooms. They respond very well to a smile and a please and Thank you.
Enjoy the Hotel for the views which are priceless and ask for a lake view bedroom if thats what you like. Remember you are in the Lake District not in the middle of London!

Room Tip: Choose a lake view if you want to see the lake, simple as that!

The hotel is situated on the banks of lake Windermere in a perfect location and right in the centre of Bowness near restaurants, bars and shops. We stayed in a refurbished room on the top floor which was lovely but could have been a little bigger, but adequate size. We had a wonderful lake view. The only problem we had was that there was no air-con and the room was too warm. The window was locked so we rang down to reception and someone was sent up immediately to open it although it didnt make much difference as it only opened about an inch. We were in a group and had a set meal which was nice but not to the same standard as all the other Macdonald hotels we have stayed in. I have to agree with other reviewers about the breaksfast. The hot food was luke warm at best. After reading other reviews we decided to go down from breakfast when they opened thinking this would be the best time to get some hot food but we were disappointed. The following day I ordered a fresh poached egg thinking that it would be hot and it wasnt even warm it was stone cold! Food aside, the hotel was fab and the staff couldnt do engough for you. The pool was great although a little crowded at times. There are plenty of lovel places around to eat if you dont want to eat in the hotel (it is quite expensive for what you get). I would definatley stay here again.

I was a little apprehensive about booking this hotel after some of the reviews , but was very pleasantly surprised. We booked last minute and it was about the only hotel with any sat night vacancies. Good price on late rooms. We booked an exec double. Room 141. As the other reviewer said it didn't have a view but I wasn't really that bothered, there were lovely views from the bar and restraunt. Great size room, lovely bathroom and the most comfortable king size bed I have ever known. It was great. Easy to drop of your luggage and the car park is only a few minutes away. Very central location which meant going out to eat or for a drink was really easy. Saturday night in bowness is rather lively, but we weren't disturbed once back at the hotel. Spa was very nice. Staff were friendly and helpful, the concierge Anthony was very helpful and knew the area well. Breakfast was good, but service could have been a little better, again not too much of a problem as we weren't in a rush. Would definitely go again.

Room Tip: 142was large but no view.

My husband and i visited the Spa at this hotel and that is review for another day but before leaving we called in to the Terrace Bar for some lunch. Nice surroundings , obviously think they are something special, pleasant staff but dreadfull , overpriced food. The couple on the next table where in a discussion with the Duty Manager as their hot food was inedible , we tried the sandwiches , what a mistake . £7 for cheese and pickle sandwiche, i don't think so ; wouldn't have minded if they had been of a good quality but the bread was dry , cheese thinly sliced and describing 2 pieces of soggy lettuce as with salad is taking the micky. Avoid this overpriced hotel , far better eating places to be found in the area.
