“A Superb Hotel In a Great Location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 March 2012

My husband booked a 2 night B&B break for us to help celebrate my birthday, and. we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely hotel. Our room was a standard room overlooking the garden. It was spotlessly clean as was the bathroom. The breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice. We had a table with a lovely view of the lake, we couldn't have asked for better !!! The staff were all helpful and very friendly. We can recommend the Fayrer Garden House Hotel and hopefully will be visiting it again !!

My wife booked a 2 night break on a KGB deal and left it for two weeks before informing me. On trying to book I found that there were no Fri/Sat or Sat/Sun available. We did however get a Sun/Mon booking and I have to say it all worked out well.
The hotel itself had an interesting history which the welcome booklet covers well. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable. A lake view is the best option but the Garden view we had was nice enough for us. The hotel is situated a short walk from the centre but be aware that the road into town has sections with no pavement (the Scots waiter later informed us that there is a safer route but found that out on our last evening).
We did read that the food was very good at the hotel and was offered a £30 dinner which we accepted and was glad we did. Canapies in the lounge, followed by more at the dinner table, 3 courses with petit fours and coffee afterwards. A good selection of wines was available.
Again the Scots waiter was very informative about the food and wines and showed a very professional manner along with the rest of the dining room staff in the service. A very good meal for the price.
Breakfast again was very good quality with nice porridge to start with and the choice of full breakfast/manx kippers/scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. All favourites and enjoyed the latter two over the two mornings.
Overall this is a great place for a weekend break, great location, nice accomodation, fantastic food and staff to go with it.

Stayed here recently as a party of 12 of varied ages celebrating an 80th birthday.

The hotel is located on quiet road on the edge of Windermere town and you can walk down to the lake in about 20 minutes although it is uphill coming back, so you need to be relatively fit! The building is attractive and situated in beautiful grounds with stunning views of the lake and plenty of seating and tables for a leisurely outdoor drink, or lunch if the weather is fine. There is also lots of parking space. The atmosphere throughout is relaxed and the lounge and dining rooms are comfortable if slightly 1980’s - both have fine views of the garden and lake.

Bedrooms are tastefully decorated and a decent size, but for a hotel of this character and price they could be a bit better furnished and bathrooms have electric showers so although there is no shortage of hot water, don’t expect a power shower ! All bedrooms have nice views of the lake or gardens and those overlooking the car park seem to be bigger for the price.

Although there are no leisure facilities at the hotel, guests can use the excellent facilities at the Old England Hotel and Spa on the water front in Bowness. Most people doing this will want to take their car, so be prepared to pay the usual exorbitant Lake District parking rates, as there is no obvious hotel car park.

Staff at Fayrer Garden are brilliant – the welcome is warm, they show you to your room and nothing is ever too much trouble. The dining room staff are also great, taking particular care with your order and without being intrusive, make sure you have a very relaxed and satisfying breakfast. The cooked breakfasts in particular were varied and excellent. We did not take dinner at the hotel, as we wanted a broader menu to cater for diverse tastes of our party, but found excellent local food at the nearby Wild Boar Inn.

All in all this is a really nice hotel to stay at, particularly if you can get a deal via one of the internet booking agencies.

Room Tip: All rooms have pretty nice views and are quiet, but rooms overlooking the lake are best.

We stayed for 2 nights in feb for my boyfriends birthday. We booked through a KGB deal £99 for 2 nights b&b. For that price we didn't expect much but we were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is beautiful inside and out. The day we arrived it was very misty so we couldn't really appreciate the stunning views until breakfast the following morning. Lake views whilst eating a nice breki is a win in our opinion. I enjoyed the breakfast but I think they could provide a better vegi option like vegi sausages or beans etc. My boyfriend enjoyed bacon and sausages every day :) The room was small but had everything we needed. The bed was big and comfy. I enjoyed the free lemon bath salts. There was a tv and a kettle. The tea/coffee/hot chocolate and biscuits was replenished both days. The weekend we stayed was extremely cold so they heating was turned right up. We slept with the windows open. It was a little uncomfortable at times but we didn't mention it to anyone. All staff we met were friendly and approachable. We would certainly recommend this hotel to family and friends looking for a peaceful romantic getaway. Windemere is not for everyone. We probably won't go again unless we have some children. Lots to do for families and walkers. Not much for boring young couples like us.

We purchased this holiday break through a KGB deal and loved every minute of our stay at the Fayrer Garden House Hotel. Our ground floor room had a King size bed and we both found it extremely comfortable especially as I suffer with a bad back. We had french doors which opened on to the extensive beautiful garden and Lake Windermere in view also, it was so lovely to wake up in the morning and see the spectacular view. The bathroom was a good size with a very good shower the only negative we found was when we were unable to turn the heat down on the radiator as it got too hot.
The Cream Tea which was included in the deal was lovely which we enjoyed in the sunny lounge. We booked an evening meal which consisted of 3 courses, the food and service was excellent. The staff were very friendly and attentive to all our needs, we would deffinately recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in the Lake District.

My wife and I stayed two nights midweek as part of her birthday celebrations.

We paid a small upgrade for a lakeview room (technically correct, but the water is some distance away!).

Room was comfortable but a little tired in appearance. TV, which unfortunately we relied upon too much because we were both sick, was minuscule and only had four channels working.

Bathroom was excellent, though, with a lovely large whirlpool bath. Only downside was that the nice toiletries were nailed to the wall. If you think people are going to pinch these bottles, why not put a robe style note out, saying that if you love it so much you can take it away with you for a charge?

Breakfast was good - I'm veggie and the continental buffet was fine, while my wife had the full English - but we were a bit mystified as to why it was only served between 0815 and 0945?

Having a 2.5yo son, we are usually up by 0700 so it's a long time to wait for breakfast!

On that subject, there were several notes about children in the hotel eg not allowed for dinner, well-behaved ones only in the hotel. While I can appreciate that people appreciate a bit of peace and quiet, I personally find it offensive that families cannot eat together. This has always been my view - not just since I became a dad.

We didn't have our son with us this time - he stayed with my sister-in-law - but none of the above information was communicated before our visit and it would have created a very tricky situation.

In summary, a good but by no means spectacular hotel about a one-mile walk from Bowness centre and the lake. Suited to a far older age group than ourselves (36/38) and one for families to avoid.

We stayed here on a KGB deal but paid for an upgrade to a superior room. For this we got a whirlpool bath, 4 poster bed and a sitting area with a view of the lake and gardens. The cream tea that was included in the deal was lovely. Comfortable hotel, fantastic breakfast in lovely dining room and excellent friendly staff.

Only 3 mins drive to Bowness where we could park for free after 6pm. Decided against walking into Bowness due to a previous review on here - and were glad we took that advice. Too dark to be walking on roads in some areas of route into town. All in all we had a lovely 2 night break in Bowness.

Room Tip: Upgrade was worth the extra money.
