“Fantastic stay!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 April 2014

Post the refurb we have just spent an overnight stay at the Ryebeck. Food; great, hospitality; great, new decor; great, overall ; great! An overnight stay with cream tea, evening meal and cooked breakfast. May have only been 24 hours, but like the food, its not the quantity, its the quality. We are so glad we have chosen the Ryebeck for our Wedding in September. Nicola, Candice and John have been professional, attentive and most helpful in organising our special day (weekend) and this brief stay was no exception. Cant really add anything else!

We stayed here about 3 years ago, and felt it was looking a little "tired"
So when we heard it had a makeover, and changed its name, we thought we would give it a try.
Have to say the gentleman who gave the 3 star rating in March couldn't have been more wrong !! The staff are utterly delightful, the room superb, with lake views and lovely fluffy white towels and very comfy bed.
We have stayed at some lovely hotels, but the food here is some of the best !! Have no idea what the man meant about the poached eggs, they were perfect! And the evening meal (including the canapés) was really superb.
Nothing here seems too much trouble..... And we will certainly be back !!!
Thank you for a lovely 2 nights.

Really comfortable room, if a little small. Lovely bathroom. Lounge with afternoon cream tea superb.
Dining room and food exceptional. Booked through a Travelzoo offer which made this good value for money. Would definitely come back here at offer price.

We stayed for the weekend recently, we got a good deal by booking through off peak luxury, and stayed in Room 31, which had a superb lake view, the room was really comfortable but we did feel the room could use a bit of redecoration, but none the less we thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the window seat staring out at the wonderful view. We had an afternoon tea on arrival which was lovely, but the star of the show for us was the dinner each evening, the food is absolutely wonderful, and definitely quality over quantity, which always suits us best. The staff are really helpful and friendly ans they seem to work 24/7, we saw the same few staff continuously and felt we'd built up a good rapport over our two night stay. We will definitely return and soon.

Room Tip: Get a lake view! Well worth the extra!

Have a look below, I am very disappointed how this has been dealt with by the hotel. It really should not have happened

Madam,

I obviously am not going to get a response from you so will just post my comments on Trip Advisor for the World to see.

FAO Hotel Manager

Dear Madam,

I would like to inform you regarding our stay at the Rybeck on the above date. This was the 1st time we have stayed since changing from the Fayrer Garden Hotel.

We booked with you because I received an email advising of the change of name and refurbishment. We have always been happy on previous stays and really enjoyed the hotel and its facilities.

I must say that on this occasion we were less happy. The “refurbishments” seem just to be a lick of paint and new furniture which, on the whole, are very nice but the cottages, where we stayed, seem to have been missed. The room was a little dated and the shower head was broken. These did not deflect from our enjoyment and I merely mention it for your information.

What is different is the overall impact of the hotel now. The food at dinner was far below what it used to be. The canapés were just half a tomato with a lump of cheese and a pit of lettuce. Not very “fine dining”. The shrimp canapé was served on what could be described as a piece of slate. Although the main meal was nice my cheese board was stale along with the biscuits. The Lakeland breakfast was just a normal bacon and egg combo which showed no attention to presentation and my poached egg was raw on top as it had been made on a griddle not in a pan of boiling water. I believe some fast food outlets use this technique, not a fine hotel.

I must say though that the staff were very pleasant and attentive but I still had to ask for a receipt on check out which was not offered to me. I was also not asked whether we had enjoyed our stay. Small points I know but based on the competition in the lakes I suggest these things need to be addressed.

My final comment, although really not your fault, is that on walking to dinner there was a Porsche Turbo parked in the disabled space at the front of the hotel which was still there at breakfast. No blue badge and not really the sort of car someone with disabilities would find easy to get into or drive ! Why was the owner not asked to move it as you knew the registration from check in ?

I really enjoyed previous visits to the Fayrer but considering the options I have in the lakes I will think carefully before returning which is a real shame.

We ate here last week and have to say the food was superb. The staff were courteous and dining here was an absolute pleasure. Fist class service and food. Presentation of food was outstanding and the taste was even better. I would certainly recommend a visit if you appreciate fine dining.

We stayed for a celebration weekend and were warmly and professionally welcomed by well turned out staff. The welcome included complimentary wine, scones and cream and tea & coffee.
The food was truly first class and served with a pleasant explanation of the course. It was prompt and followed up with checks to see if everything was in order. We look forward to our next stay.
