Lindeth Fell Country House
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 26 October 2011

We stayed for three nights in late September.
The attention to detail was fantastic. The owners and staff seemed to really care and went over and beyond the service normally encountered in hotels.
We were made to feel that nothing was too much trouble.
The rooms were attractive and spotless. The public rooms charming and a delight.
Thank you for a wonderful stay. We really hope to come again in the future.

We stayed at the Lindeth Fell on 14th and 15th October as we were attending a wedding and decided to make a weekend of it. The hotel is in a wonderful setting and very peaceful. The staff were very attentive but not over powering, just the right balance I think. Friendly and helpful at all times. We had breakfast each morning which was cooked just as you wanted it and there was a good choice if you didn't want a full breakfast. Dinner on the Saturday night was excellent and we couldn't fault the food at all. Rooms were clean and tidy and the rooms were serviced with amazing regularity, even replacing tea, coffee and biscuits when we were at dinner. Altogether a relaxing stay, something we both needed before going back to our busy work schedules on Monday morning.

I stayed one night (Saturday) when passing through the area on business. This place is excellent and far superior to almost all other hotels I have stayed in, although by no means is it more expensive. It is extremely comfortable, and for once (Rare in my hotel experience) dinner was really enjoyable. I would certainly stay again, and would unhesitatingly recommend it to anyone wanting a high quality, spotless, quiet hotel with excellent food and service.

We stayed here for a couple of nights to recharge our batteries. The hotel was very peaceful;no televisions in public areas or music playing. The staff were very well trained. Cheerful, discrete and genuinely interested and concerned for all your needs. Excellent food. Not for children. Stunning views.

We stayed here several years ago and were so impressed we just had to come back. Very little had changed, we are happy to say. Sheena is as charming and helpful as ever and the owner is a lovely lady, she is very smart, very at ease with the guests and a pleasure to talk to. The room was immaculate, beautifully decorated and spotless.

We thought the staff were particularly attentive and very polite indeed.

The only reason we did not mark this review as excellent was because of the food, it was not quite as we had remembered it. It was still very good on the whole, but my husband's steak one evening was rather tough, and he couldn't see his smoked haddock one morning beneath the eggs for breakfast, it was a little meagre in portion (just a small tail end). The food was otherwise well cooked, soups absolutely delicious (and so were the sweets) but perhaps the main courses just lacked the flair and originality that were very evident during our last visit.

The fresh flowers at the table are a delight to see and the attention to detail is still very apparent.

We found the guests mostly very elderly which is not a criticism, although we took our parents a few years ago who are in their seventies and they said they felt a little on the young side.

Overall, a beautiful hotel and we could still see the obvious personal dedication of the owner and staff shining through.

Room Tip: We have now experienced 3 rooms including parents and all very good, Grasmere room is beautiful.

We have just returned from a weekend stay at the Lindeth Fell, the hotel is a typical country house, very traditional but a little old fashioned. The service is very good, though somewhat false at times , we found most of the guests were rather elderly, which made the place feel rather like a rest home, especially as we discovered one guest asleep on the sofa in the lounge at tea time.
The food is nice but the portions are particularly small, this is worth pointing out as the hotel is rather expensive, we have stayed at many hotels and country houses and my husband cannot recall a cooked breakfast where he was served only one rasher of bacon on a full English breakfast? I opted for the toasted muffin with scrambled egg and smoked salmon, it arrived as half? a muffin toasted with scrambled egg and a a miserly amount of smoked salmon. An enjoyable stay for us is not just the views, it has to be the food, the amenities, the service and the overall ambiance, unfortunately for us this hotel was lacking in some of these areas.

Room Tip: front rooms have the best views

The service was outstanding, as were the gardens and views of Lake Windermere from the terrace and our room. The room and bathroom were spacious and restful. As we came without a car, we were a bit concerned with the distance from town, but taxis to and from Bowness were an affordable option if you didn't feel like the 20-minute walk. The common rooms for the guests were also very comfortable, with plenty of reading materials and board games. All in all, it was worth the splurge!
