Lindeth Fell Country House

Just back from a 3 night stay here with my mother. The hotel is set in the most beautiful location, set high overlooking Lake Winderemere. The staff are all extremely helpful, attentive and care that you enjoy your visit. Would recommend this place for those looking for a quiet get away and wanting to be looked after a bit! The hotel apparently won its award in 2009 for "customer service and value for money". I would definitely go along with that.

As soon as you arrive at this hotel you know that it is run by professionals who are completely dedicated to ensuring that their guests are welcomed into their home. The standards of cleanliness are absolutely superb and levels of comfort are high. The gardens were looking splendid during our vist as they were in full and prolific bloom with very impressive rhododendrons and azaleas in abundance. The lawns and paths around the grounds were well maintained and inviting to the young and old alike. Bedrooms had lovely big beds and were well equipped for comfort, although bathrooms were a bit of a let down with very small baths and shower cubicles.

My one big reservation - and it is a big one - is that the food is mediocre at best and overall fairly poor. I don't know what has happened between the visits of the last reviewers and our visit but something fairly fundamental has gone wrong. This hotel is not cheap and since it has a large number of excellent points I would not be too concerned about the expense if it was not for the disapppointing food. Not only was the quality extremely poor but the portions were very much geared to a small appetite, which is not appropriate for people who have been out and about walking all day. I got the impression that their clientele is mainly elderly so perhaps they are gearing their portion sizes towards those with smaller appetites. Furthermore, the dining room was not particularly pleasantly laid out and could certainly have had a much more inviting atmosphere, especially for the evening meal.

This let down with the food was a big shame as everything else about the hotel was really splendid, but the restaurant is an important part of a hotel stay for us and we felt very let down.

It is noteworthy that there is no wifi and no Sky TV.

Everything about this hotel worked well. Condition and cleanliness of highest order. Service outstanding. I only found one problem, the lid on the iced water flask (nice touch this) did not fit. The following day it had been sorted without having to mention it. I think the owners/managers direct supervision and attention to detail is the key to intolerance of low standards. Splendid.

We would love to return when everything is in full bloom.

We have stayed here a number of times now and each time it gets better, the welcome and care taken by all the staff especially Linda is well know to those who frequent this hotel. Nothing is a bother and they will do all within there power to ensure you have a great stay, upholding the Kennedy standards, putting the guest first.
They have a new chef since we last visited and you could tell straight away, the standard of the food has gone to a new level but still retained that Lindeth Fell philosophy.
Log fires, lovely warm rooms, good wine list, good food, great hosts what more could you want, a great place if you are looking for somewhere special.
