Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 31 January 2012

My wife and I spent a night at Lindeth Howe recently when we went for a short getaway break in the Lakes. We chose it on the basis of other Tripadvisor reviews, and are glad we did. The staff were friendly and attentive (particularly Maggie in reception), though not too informal, and the room was comfortable and felt special enough (especially with views of the lake) without being too ostentatious. The spa and pool is small but still very nice (although may have been less pleasant if the hotel was busier). The food in the restaurant was superb - fortunately justifying the slightly higher than average prices. Overall, this is not somewhere to stay if you're looking for a budget break, but you get what you pay for and on that basis we can highly recommend it.

Again, cannot fault this hotel - Only stayed one night Jan 2012 but the staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are lovely and the standard of food is excellent, canapes served in front of a roaring fire in the very comfortable lounge, the dinner is superb with excellent service. We will be back!

I never normally write reviews but this hotel was that special it had to be done ......I have just retured from a one night stay (14.01.12) When checking in it came to light that I had booked the wrong day but the staff were so helpful they said dont panic we will sort everything, a room was ready in minutes with a bottle of wine waiting on ice! The rooms were spacious and clean but really cosy at the same time and a very comfortable bed. Food - i can not describe in words how beautiful this was - massive compliments to the chef. I chose this night away to propose to my partner i could not of chosen a nicer place. The waiters must have seen me go down on one knee and we were congratulated with glasses of champagne and a slate with canapes with congratulations wrote on - what a lovely touch made the night that extra bit special this will always be a special memory to use. Thank you for a wonderful stay, looking forward to staying again in the future. Mr Cropper Leeds

We enjoyed a 2 night break at the Lindeth Howe in September and, despite the awful weather, we had an amazing time - topped off with a surprise proposal from my boyfriend.

The staff were amazing and sent up a plate of goodies and champagne to our room - the next day we came home to a congratulations card from them. It's touches like this that really set this hotel apart from the competition.

The food was AMAZING! we had the 5 course dinner and couldn't fault it. Desserts were fabulous with a touch of Heston flair! Service was great without being intrusive.

We will be back and the Lindeth will always have a special place in my heart!

Come here to be looked after - friendly competent staff, very comfortable rooms with lovely touches - turned down beds, chocs on pillow, fresh towels at night, and the food is of the best, after a cosy drink in the bar/lounge with canapes to start with, in front of a cheering fire - and the views are glorious.

Room Tip: If you have mobility problems, ask for a room on the ground floor, as there is no lift

Review a bit late but we have been away!

We stayed in early December for the second time and were given a lake-view room. Everything was perfect. The food, location and furnishings are wonderful and the staff cannot do enough to make your stay a memorable one. Thank you once again - we'll be back!!!

Being huge Beatrix potter fans, we chose Lindeth Howe because of the BP connection...she used to own it and wrote Timmy tiptoes there. Easy to get to Hilltop from here, too (ferry/bus). We had a lake view room, but you need to ask for this when booking. It's about a mile out of Windemere, but the walk is easy along lovely English countryside. Food is lovely. Really good breakfast. Expect to dress for dinner.

Room Tip: Specify what you want when booking - eg lake view, but expect to pay more for this.
