“Lovely hotel with excellent restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 June 2012

We had a really nice stay at this hotel for 4 nights. The room was good and clean, the gardens were superb and the restaurant was amazing. We had 4 very good meals, beautifully presented and very well cooked. Also the breakfasts were first class with a great choice and really yummy fruit. The service was also first class. The portions were not large but with 5 courses we felt we had had plenty to eat. And with the good breakfast the following morning who wants to overeat in the evening so you can't do justice to the breakfast. I would definitely reccommend this hotel and would go again. The only thing I would complain about was that the bedroom was too warm and we couldn't open the windows due to rediculous health and safety regulations.

This was our third stay at this lovely country hotel, I stayed with my wife for 2 nights as part of a larger group. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, the room (210) was clean, well equipped and of a good size, overlooking the rear gardens. I have to say the food was really very good, a modern menu, presented very well and cooked to perfection. The gardens are lovely, just right to sit outside for afternoon tea if the weather is kind.
Very close to Bowness (15 minute walk ) which has an array of shops, cafes and restaurants. We will certainly be staying at this hotel again when we visit the Lakes.

We booked a DBB deal at Lindeth Howe through Secret Escapes for 2 nights at the end of May. It's a traditional hotel that typically appeals to middle class silver surfers that enjoy a spot of reading and afternoon tea. We're haven't quite reached that age yet but we were here as foodies and planned to work off the calories with some hill walking.

The hotel boasts many awards for it's restaurant but we found it to be somewhat pretentious. The main dinner menu was very limited but you could choose alternatives from the signature and trio menus but this came at a premium. All dishes were well presented but seemed to lack any depth in flavour and texture. We ordered a bottle of Sancerre which arrived at our table warm and we had to wait 15-20 mins for it to chill in an ice bucket. On the first night the restaraunt was fairly busy and service was woefully slow. Staff were friendly but the overall organisation was poor. At one point, I thought the staff had forgotten us and it took 50 mins from being served canapes in the lounge to being invited to our table in the restaurant. On the 2nd night service was a bit quicker but for some reason they placed a bunch of excitable golfers in the middle of the restaurant next to couples looking for some intimacy.

The freshly cooked breakfasts were a delight without any hint of grease. The cumberland sausage and the tomatoes were the best I've ever tasted. What I didn't understand was the need to wait in the lounge before being taken into the restaurant for breakfast.

Overall I would say they do a reasonable job in the restaurant but it does lack attention to detail.

We enjoyed our experience at Lindeth Howe, the room was spacey, well appointed and clean. The hotel is set in a perfect setting and ideally suited for those looking for a touch of luxury whilst walking in the Lake District.

We stayed for 2 nights as part of a tour group and I loved this place. Our room was very comfortable and I had the best nights sleep here of our entire stay in the U.K.. The only negative thing I can say is the restaurant menu is very "upscale", which seems to be the latest trend. I don't enjoy eating food where portions are tiny & more thought has been put into how to garnish the dish attractively than into the dish itself. They also had a strange protocol for dinner - rather than seat us in the dining room, we were seated in the lounge outside and given the menu to make our choices, and eat our appetizers - only after that were we allowed in to sit down at a table in the dining room. The food was good, but far too fussy, and with few choices. We chose to eat elsewhere for our second night's dinner.

We used an offer to sample this popular hotel for a night. a dinner, bed and breakfast offer with a 'light afternoon tea' . Our room was at the rear of the hotel but was immaculate with a very large , comfy bed. When I am benefiting from an online offer I would not really expect to have the best room in the house after all. we checked in earlier than their website asks but it was not an issue at all. A lovely serene location, I am sure in winter, when the trees have less leaves on them it would offer views of the lake. A complimentary afternoon tea, but my cappuccino was not possible as " the machine was not on " , and yet it features on the menu?

Dinner proved to be mildly frustrating. Lovely Amuse Bouche , olives, bread and starters but disappointing mains, the promising menu was short on flavour and substance, Chef is clearly skilful but should taste test frequently to steer away from ' over selling' dishes which promise more than they deliver. As for chocolate jelly with vanilla foam for dessert , it was pretty bad.

Breakfast was fine. A mediocre fruit salad of pineapple, apple, grape and apple. No berries or kiwi fruit. A request for a single poached egg on white toast produced a hard boiled egg , cooked in water with vinegar in it. The cooked breakfast was better. Good filter coffee.

Two things make this hotel a good place to stay, it's peaceful location and it's lovely staff. A twenty minute stroll gets you into Bowness .

Lovely break, . The food was fine dining just like "master chef", and the service was excellent, all the staff were very helpful. Swimming pool only small but adequate. Room was smaller than expected, but had everything we needed, unfortunately it was a bit cluttered around the dresser with table and chairs, even though it was superior room. It overlooked the gardens, and you could just see the lake through the trees. Room 105.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday. We took advantage of one of the special offers of £75 per person dinner bed and breakfast. A really friendly young lady showed us around the hotel and took us to our room, 111 on the first floor with a lovely view of the gardens and you could just about see the odd boat sailing on the lake. As the room was on the corner, we had views front and side. The young lady happily took our suitcase for us up the stairs. Everything was immaculate with bottled water and lovely bath robes, White Company toiletries. I saw someone remarked that the inside looked like an old people's home but it felt comfortable and charming with the high ceilings and cornices and lovely views over the gardens. Sitting before dinner in a comfy chair, looking at the menu and being served drinks and canopes was a lovely treat. Dinner was absolutely delicious, with many wonderful flavours. I cannot praise the staff too much, nothing was too much trouble and they easily got on the wavelength of my husband who likes 'plain' sauces etc etc!! He even tried food that he thought he wouldn't like and loved them. Again the lovely dining room overlooking the gardens was a pleasure. Returning to our room, the turndown service was great, and especially the choccies on our pillows! Breakfast had an excellent choice. Location is very handy close to Bowness and surrounding areas. I enjoyed a swim in the pool, although a bit small, it didn't matter as there was only one other lady there. Loved the sauna.

Only 'small' thing I would say was that when we arrived a bit early we weren't offered the option to sit in one of the lounges or take afternoon tea as is mentioned in the brochure. Although we were offered to leave our luggage. Think it could have been a bit friendlier, but everything else far outweighed this.

I have heard about these boutique hotels and their prices but you can't fault good English service and politness, and attention to detail. You can see that I really am a convert to Lindeth Howe! We feel totally relaxed, after a busy few months of house renovations we really needed a break. Thank you LIndeth Howe, if you will have us back we will return!

Room Tip: Our room was 111 and only had one adjoining bedroom. It had views to the front and the side.
