My husband decided that we needed a relaxing couple of days away and booked us into Lindeth Howe and I am so pleased he did.On arrival the staff were polite and attentative. We were booked to have a small afternoon tea on arrival but we arrived later then expected and so waited until the next day to have this. Our room was big and the bed was huge, there was a turn down service and they left a little chocolate on our pillows, very nice touch. The bathroom was nice and clean and the shower powerful enough with loads of hot water. Tea, coffee making facilities were replenished and on arrival we had 2 bottles of still water in the room. The 5 course meal on the evening was one of the best we have had and just the right amount of food for each course. Breakfast was good and I liked the fact that there were more fruit juice then the normal apple and orange. We went for a walk into Windermere which took about 20mins and then I was looking forward to our afternoon tea and I wasn't disappointed. We had sandwiches, shortcake, little carrot cake and the most amazing scones I have ever tasted with jam and clotted cream and this was washed down with a lovely pot of tea. We sat and had this in the lounge near a roaring fire which was great after being outside in the cold. The staff were all very polite and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. There is a pool but we did not get round to using this so cannot comment on it but last night it was getting used by a few of the guests. I am now looking forward to our next stay. Thank you to all staff who made our stay such a lovely one!

For me, going to the Lakes is food for the soul. Your eyes feast upon the countryside and you drink in the view.

And what a view it was this past week. Late October is a superb time to visit as the palette of Autumn colours on display is breathtaking.

Nestled in the trees not far from Bowness-on-Windermere is the Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel, where we (and that means me, my wife and two children) stayed for two nights this past week.

My wife and I had stayed at the hotel about 10 years ago, when it was family-owned, with superb food and ambience, log fires, nice whiskeys and wine.

And now, with the hotel in different hands and expanded, it still manages to retain that cosy feel. It retains a sense of style and a commitment to treating guests properly.

The family room we were in had ample space and the boys particularly liked the fact someone made their beds for them - and came in later to turn the beds down and lay a little chocolate on their pillows.

The dining room was traditional, and the five course meal - complete with sorbet (which came as a surprise to the boys) - was some of the best food we have experienced. From the curried Cornish Crab to the pumpkin gnocchi, and from the hake to the char, the food was cooked to perfection. Even the breakfast was fine dining.

Guests wore smart attire for dinner. Not overly so. Not fussy. Just smart. Going down for dinner meant something.

The restaurant fully deserves to be rated a Michelin star in the future - in fact, I think I saw a Michelin recommendation proudly displayed somewhere.

Nothing seemed too much trouble for the staff. A quick lunch and coffee while working in the library? not a problem. Fresh towels for use after a swim? There, ready.

There were only two things that I would mark the hotel down on. One, the cold tap wasn't that cold. And, the equipment in the fitness room looked a little tired - Beatrix Potter herself may have used it.

We recently spent 4 nights at this hotel. We had a large room with a beautiful lake view. The room was well appointed. The bathroom was updated.
The public rooms were lovely with plenty of places to curl up with a good book!
The dining room food was outstanding. The chefs presentation was worthy of a five star restaurant.
There was one waiter, Tony, who was delightful. From there the service went downhill from wait staff to reception. Most of the staff seemed to be eastern european nd spoke poor English. There was no seeming .host or hostess overall to the property which to me is a given for this type of hotel. Food orders at breakfast were delivered wrong several times. We were not pleased.

Room Tip: Ask for a large lake view room. The other rooms are very small.

A lovelly furnished and located hotel, with excellant food and good service. We were on a Travel Zoo offer and it lived up to good value and service. The only criticisum I had was although there was aa ample reception office the lady in charge made it clear she didnt want you in her office, so all the business was done in the hall which I found unsatisfactory and a little unfriendly. However the other staff made up for it, and were very pleasant and helpful. The barman inb particular who served us brandy in hot glassess certainly knew his business.

Spent four nights here and just loved it. Beautiful, peaceful setting. 15 minute walk into village of Bowness via footpath. Close proximity to the Blackwell Arts & Crafts House. Service outstanding; the kind of place that always says "yes" to your requests. Wonderful food...appreciated the option of having a "snack" in one of the lounges or eating in the dining room. Breakfast was wonderful too.Very good at making arrangements for tours, taxis, etc. Spacious room with view of beautiful garden and a peek at the lake. Did have to tackle a fair number of stairs but they carried the luggage up for you (and brought it down at check out). This is the kind of place that restores the soul!

We recently had a two night stay at this wonderful hotel after having read previous reviews. From the moment we arrived, we realised we had made a good choice. With superb food, excellent service, and extremely relaxing surroundings, we had the ideal opportunity to recharge the batteries, so to speak. Although not ideal weather to explore the beautiful gardens, it was nice to be able to start one of our walks, literally from the bottom of the garden, out into the adjoining lane. Definitely a place we will stay at again, hopefully in better weather.

Room Tip: Any of the gardens overlooking the gardens & looking out over the lake would be ideal.
