“Wonderful experience”
Reviewed 26 July 2014

Cannot fault either the hotel, service or food. As far as we were concerned it was one of the best short breaks we have had. We started with afternoon tea in the garden and then had a walk into Bowness. We followed this with a swim in the pool to build up an appetite for our meal in the evening. The staff could not do enough for us and it was an exercise in trying to decide which country they hailed from - Spain, France, Poland, etc. We enjoyed talking to them and hearing that they were all trying to improve their English which we thought was good anyway. Our evening meal and breakfast the following morning were excellent. Would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to enjoy a break in the Lake District.

Room Tip: Our room, although not large, had everything that we wanted and to be able to open the windows for f...

My husband and I stayed here for part of the England/Scotland trip we took for our 30th wedding anniversary. I found it to be absolutely charming. We had an upper room that was large and spacious. The view was quite lovely, although it was a little foggy some of the time. We spent three nights here, with dinner and breakfast included. All of the meals were top notch -- beautifully presented, delicious, and just the right size. We did not spend much day time at the hotel as much of our stay was spent tramping about outdoors. When we did get back, we found the beds restful and inviting. This is one of the rainiest locations in England, but we were lucky to have two sunny days while we were there.

Stayed at Lindeth Howe for one night as part of our silver wedding celebration. We got a special deal (one of their "Hot Dates" offers) which includes the five course dinner. So this was good value for money. Their normal rates are quite expensive though.
The Hotel looks lovely and is in a nice setting near Lake Windermere. The garden and patio area are well looked after and pleasant.
The staff were pleasant enough, if not particularly welcoming.
The Superior room we had was reasonably sized. There was a constant vibrating noise during the day which was apparently caused by the pool. The noise stopped at night, but it could be worthwhile asking for a room which is not above the swimming pool.
The swimming pool is small, not really big enough to have a proper swim, but good enough for a quick dip. There is a Spa, but we didn't use it.
The restaurant is very nice with large windows looking out onto the garden. The food was of a very high standard. Each course is quite small, but, once you've had 5 courses, then it is enough.
Breakfast was also of a high standard. The hot breakfast was cooked to order, but was also quite small.
The hotel normally has free wifi, but it wasn't available during our stay.
Overall, a pleasant stay in a lovely setting.

Room Tip: Ask for a room which is not above the swimming pool, as the pool causes an annoying vibrating noise...

One night stay, dinner ,bed and breakfast and afternoon tea.All aspects of the stay most enjoyable .The afternoon tea( with prosecco) was delightful scones very light and everything delicious. The evening meal was interesting and cooked to perfection. Lovely ,small swimming pool helped to burn off some of the calories .Staff were very attentive.I even enjoyed talking to the gardener who is trying to restore the garden and provide a habitat for wildlife. Excellent stay and and a really nice treat. Well done to everyone in particular the chef.

Came for afternoon tea. Left waiting at reception for at least 10 minutes, so went in search of a member of staff. On finding a member of staff and finally getting his attention we where abruptly told to find a seat. Asked said member of staff would it be possible to have our afternoon tea in the garden (lovely sunny day). He replied 'i can't see why not' as he walked away. When the afternoon tea arrived (1 veggie and 1 meat eater which they knew as we pre booked) no meat for meat eater, no thought put into the Veggie ie cucumber sandwich or tomato sandwich to top it off it was on dry bread! Still waiting for the high chair we requested. Overall customer service 0 food 0 will not be recommending to Lindeth Howe to anyone. £34 down the drain.

My husband and I stayed at Lindeth Howe many years ago and loved it but this time we where very disappointed. Staff on arrival not very pleasant but this did improve with the second lady who showed us to our room, room with a lake view could barely see the lake. Food reasonable although breakfast on the first morning was cold and late but I think it had been left to one side as other residents who came into the dining room after us did get their cooked breakfast before us. Staff in dining room where at our table to clear it before my husband had swallowed his last bite so felt a little rushed. Apparently there is a spa but no one mentioned this to us. Overall disappointing especially after our first visit serval years ago changes have been made but not for the better

Have just spent two nights db&b here, was a little worried that the hotel would be 'tired' and the staff unfriendly (as per other reviews...) this was not the case. The staff were fabulous, attentive without being intrusive, professional and courteous. Nothing was too much trouble for the hotel. On par with five star hotels I have previously stayed in. The room was classic, spotlessly clean and huge. The little touches such as local bottled water and fresh coffee in the rooms was fab. Our evening meals were stupendous - the white peach and rosemary sorbet was inspired. Nothing about this mini break was anything but perfect and we will definitely return again, for the charm and character of Lindeth Howe.
