“Lovely Stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 August 2014

We recently spent three nights at Lindeth Howe to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, having stayed there on our honeymoon all those years ago. The hotel has obviously changed over the years, although it still retains its charm and comfortable restful setting.
We booked a suite and was more than happy with the room, it was very spacious, well appointed and with lovely views over the garden and the lake in the distance.

The service generally was very good and any queries were always quickly dealt with. We had dinner on the first evening and although the food was very good, however it is 'fine dining' and you feel left wanting more at the end of your meal. The service within the restaurant was mixed, we had some very good waiters and others who were not as attentive, this was especially so at breakfast when on some occasions people were left waiting while a table was prepared for them. One nice aspect is having tea or a drink in the gardens (weather permitting of course)

There a few oddities, like there being no main reception at the hotel, when you arrive you have to poke your nose around a door to an office where someone deals with your arrival. think they need to look at this. I also asked for a bottle of champagne to be in our room when we arrived and had to ask for this as they had forgotten.

It is about a 15minute walk to the centre of Bowness, which is OK if the weather is fine, but a taxi is sometimes a better option.

The hotel is not cheap, but I think overall is probably just about worth it for what you get and of course the location.

We have stayed here a couple of times and so it was a natural to complete our weeks tour of Scotland on the way home. Again the service and food were excellent and the rooms we had were very comfortable.
The same relaxed atmosphere was present and we happily chilled out here and had a wonderful meal and slow start to the next day.

Room Tip: All the rooms we have had have been excellent.

Had a wonderful break at The Lindeth Howe, cannot fault anything.
The staff were all very helpful and friendly, and the food was of excellent quality. We had afternoon tea when we checked in and a five course evening meal. The breakfast the following morning was equally good. Would definitely recommend this hotel for a break in the Lake District.

Cannot fault either the hotel, service or food. As far as we were concerned it was one of the best short breaks we have had. We started with afternoon tea in the garden and then had a walk into Bowness. We followed this with a swim in the pool to build up an appetite for our meal in the evening. The staff could not do enough for us and it was an exercise in trying to decide which country they hailed from - Spain, France, Poland, etc. We enjoyed talking to them and hearing that they were all trying to improve their English which we thought was good anyway. Our evening meal and breakfast the following morning were excellent. Would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to enjoy a break in the Lake District.

Room Tip: Our room, although not large, had everything that we wanted and to be able to open the windows for f...

My husband and I stayed here for part of the England/Scotland trip we took for our 30th wedding anniversary. I found it to be absolutely charming. We had an upper room that was large and spacious. The view was quite lovely, although it was a little foggy some of the time. We spent three nights here, with dinner and breakfast included. All of the meals were top notch -- beautifully presented, delicious, and just the right size. We did not spend much day time at the hotel as much of our stay was spent tramping about outdoors. When we did get back, we found the beds restful and inviting. This is one of the rainiest locations in England, but we were lucky to have two sunny days while we were there.

Stayed at Lindeth Howe for one night as part of our silver wedding celebration. We got a special deal (one of their "Hot Dates" offers) which includes the five course dinner. So this was good value for money. Their normal rates are quite expensive though.
The Hotel looks lovely and is in a nice setting near Lake Windermere. The garden and patio area are well looked after and pleasant.
The staff were pleasant enough, if not particularly welcoming.
The Superior room we had was reasonably sized. There was a constant vibrating noise during the day which was apparently caused by the pool. The noise stopped at night, but it could be worthwhile asking for a room which is not above the swimming pool.
The swimming pool is small, not really big enough to have a proper swim, but good enough for a quick dip. There is a Spa, but we didn't use it.
The restaurant is very nice with large windows looking out onto the garden. The food was of a very high standard. Each course is quite small, but, once you've had 5 courses, then it is enough.
Breakfast was also of a high standard. The hot breakfast was cooked to order, but was also quite small.
The hotel normally has free wifi, but it wasn't available during our stay.
Overall, a pleasant stay in a lovely setting.

Room Tip: Ask for a room which is not above the swimming pool, as the pool causes an annoying vibrating noise...

One night stay, dinner ,bed and breakfast and afternoon tea.All aspects of the stay most enjoyable .The afternoon tea( with prosecco) was delightful scones very light and everything delicious. The evening meal was interesting and cooked to perfection. Lovely ,small swimming pool helped to burn off some of the calories .Staff were very attentive.I even enjoyed talking to the gardener who is trying to restore the garden and provide a habitat for wildlife. Excellent stay and and a really nice treat. Well done to everyone in particular the chef.
