“Relaxation at its best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 December 2012

We have just stayed for four nights at the Burn How. The service couldn't be bettered and the food served was excellent and up to corden bleu standard, with plenty of variety. The accommodation was really warm and comfortable and everything that you could want was provided. The staff all went out of their way to make it a memorable stay. We will definitely be returning for another visit.

Room Tip: We know that all the rooms are to a very high standard, from four posters to chalets.

We stayed in the part that looks like a motel in a superior king. It had a lovely view over the gardens at the back. The interior is dated but it is extremely clean, spacious and comfortable. Big comfy bed with crisp white bed linen and nice clean fluffy towels in the good sized bathroom. The breakfast was absolutely delicious too. Staff very helpful and friendly. All you need really! We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Superior king in the motel-like section

The Burn How Hotel was the second of three hotels we chose for a mini-break with a good deal of dry weather forecast even though it was November. We drove from Grange to Windermere via Ulverston to while away 5 hours between hotels. We managed to choose the day on which Ulverston featured on the national news due to severe weather and flooding! We continued our journey with trepidation along the flooded main roads until with great relief we reached the Burn How- an oasis of calm.We were quickly guided to our garden lodge which was delightfully spacious with large windows leading to a verandah overlooking the garden and had comfortable chairs and a sparkling new bathroom. The dining room and bar area were very pleasant to sit in and watch the many kinds of birds feeding as we took the exceptionally good breakfast. The staff were very friendly, efficient and helpful. The hotel is well situated for a stroll around Bowness and central for touring the Lakes. We would happily return.

Enjoyed a two night stay at Burn How hotel. Location is very good being only a short walk into Bowness centre and the facilities. The room was spacious located in a two storey block close to the main hotel. It was clean and warm but a little dated overall it was comfotable, spacious and clean. We had the full english on both days which was excellent. There was also a good choice of fruit, cereals etc. We also had the dinner on saturday which again was excellent. To conclude good food, excellent service, well located, nice but slightly dated rooms. The cost was a little on the high side but overall a very enjoyable stay

This was a last minute booking arranged with Linda. The room was everything we hoped for and more. We stayed in room 20 of the Lodge which had huge sash windows and a lovely ornamental fireplace. The room was wonderful and warm on arrival. Very welcoming.
The bathroom was spotlessly clean and the shower fantastic!
We really appreciated the little touches and the welcome tray (we ate all your biscuits!)
Breakfast the next morning was the best I've ever had in a hotel, the cooked breakfast was hot and delicious and there was plenty of choice when it came to the fruit, breakfast cereal, yoghurts etc.
I also recommend The Albert Pub in Bowness for food and brilliant atmosphere.

I really can't thank the staff at Burn How enough for making our stay perfect. We hope to return in the future.

We have been staying regularly at the Burn How for over 15 years now and have never been disappointed with our choice during all that time.
If you are looking for a modern "boutique" hotel then don't stay here. If, however, you like a proper "country house" hotel with charm and character, the best range of breakfast menu you could ever want and excellent evening dining, then in our opinion you will be hard pressed to find anywhere that's better value for money. The rooms are traditionally furnished and kept spotlessly clean. The regular staff, Linda, Maggie, Melissa and Dorothy, are always friendly and attentive and keep the place running like a swiss watch, under the watchful eye of Michael the owner who is never far away. Added to this the Hotel sits in delightful grounds and is literally only a few minutes from Bowness and Lake Windermere. We hope to continue staying there for many more years to come and continue to recommend it to all our friends. Long may it continue!!

Room Tip: You have a choice of the Chalet Rooms set in the grounds, Garden Rooms or the Lodge House. We prefer...

We had met up with friends for lunch at Lindeth Howe. That was very good indeed. We decided to have a night in the Lake District, fancied a change, and noted the good reviews of Burn How. We called, and managed to get the internet rate, but no lower! This is more a motel than a hotel. The rooms are scattered about the lovely gardens. The rooms all seem to be of good size. I have often found hotels of this type to be a bit cold and musty. This was not so. The room was large, with a super modern bathroom. The carpet and decor were a bit tired, but the heating was pewerful and the lighting was much brighter than the average hotel. The bed was very comfortable. We only wanted a light dinner, and were surprised how empty it was with only one more table occupied even though the hotel was almost full. . I think this is due to the superb situation so close to Bowness that there is a massive choice of restaurants for eating out. The food wasgood but not multiple rosette standard so common in this area.

Walking back to the room in the rain was the only downside. All the reports said that the breakfast was the highlight, and so it proved. Seldom does one get such a splendid selection of fresh fruit at a hotel in this country. Seldom is there such a good choice of cooked breakfast items. The staff were universally nice friendly and helpful. It is hard to rate value. For example we found Linthwaite House to be absolutely superb, but even at a discount rate it was double the price of Burn How. Maybe 4 dots on an absolute level, but considring the price it just makes a 5. So would we go again, indeed yes.

Room Tip: We had what was available, it was OK!.
