The Burn How Garden House Hotel
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 1 February 2014

Arriving in the rain on Sunday 26 January for a one night DB&B (free bottle of wine) my wife & I checked in & were escorted to one of the several garden chalets in the grounds of the hotel.
The chalet, although a little tired & dated, was spacious (ideal for a family), comfortable, warm & cosy with plenty of cupboard space & a good-sized bathroom.

Dinner & breakfast were taken in the main building.

The lounge, dining room & small bar were very comfortable & tastefully decorated. Our three-course dinner was excellent, with a good choice on the menu. We couldn't fault the service provided by the staff who were very efficient & helpful. Breakfast taken next morning was also enjoyable, with an excellent choice of fresh fruit in addition to the usual selection.

The weather didn't do the place justice. I'm sure it will look a lot more attractive when the sun is shining & the garden in full bloom.

We departed in the rain.....

We spent a very nice weekend here. The rooms are very clean and quiet. The beds are a bit soft but otherwise the rooms are fine. What makes this a very good hotel is the level of service, friendliness of the staff and superb breakfast.

My wife and I have lived locally for 40+years and took advantage of a Travelzoo deal.My review is not based on that but how we actually found one night Dinner/Bed/Breakfast Tuesday Jan 21 2014 chalet No 1
In a word superb in every way.
On arrival (raining a bit) we were made very welcome ,help offered with our luggage togother with umbrellas if needed.See hotel description regarding accomodation available. The chalet was spotlessly clean, all mod cons, gas central heating adjustable to greenhouse temperature! The beds were most comportable.I think that the chalet has been recently refurbished with quality items.

Dinner left nothing to be desired with friendly attentive staff,Food was of a high quality, plenty of choice and presented with flair. The wine list is a MUST to look at.Much choice of quality with a mark of perhaps x1 on retail not the more usual x3 upwards.

Breakfast. You would not go hungry here! See comments by other reviewers.Again,a high standard.

If you require something different, privately owned? with old fashioned courtesy and service
come here.

Room Tip: Take time with room location to make sure you will be happy with your choice.

We spent a weekend here and found the hotel to be clean, comfortable and friendly. Breakfast was fantastic and had a really large selection of main dishes. We opted for the Cumbrian grill both mornings but the smoked salmon with eggs sounded delicious. The staff and management were attentive, extremely courteous and friendly. We have stayed at other locations in the Lakes none with a bed as comfortable as the one at the Burn How. I would recommend this establishment on value as you can spend the same amount on a B&B without the extra facilities that an hotel offers. Location is perfect, far enough away from main road but just a five minute walk from Bowness and it's restaurants bars and shops. Only negative was no draught ale in the bar but plenty of bottled choice. Would definitely stay here again, thanks for a lovely break.

We spent the new years eve here,
The staff are amazingly helpful and show a level of service that seems to have become unknown in the UK these days.
Breakfast is amazing, I never eat breakfast usually but I made an exception here and I was really glad I did. The restaurant staff were amazingly attentive and the quality of the food was fantastic

The rooms are okay, perfectly fine and good value. The room was quiet, you can't hear road noise or anyone else which is so nice and unlike most other hotels.

Well worth taking a stay here :)

Really superb hotel. Yes the rooms are a little dated but the staff, charm and overall comfort makes this hotel worth a stay. The lounge is particularly nice and the bar area lovely. Breakfast is also great. Nice leafy surroundings and reasonable price.

We will be staying again.

The hotel is idealy situated in the village of Bowness on Windermere. We arrived by train at Windermere and took a bus to Bowness, it stopped just two minutes walk from the hotel, just in front of the ferry pier. The hotel is in the center of the village wich makes it easy to go to restaurants.
Our beautiful room was in the lodge, on the second floor. It was clean an very roomy. We had a big window with a view on the hills on the other side of the laken and a good sized modern bathroom.
The breakfast in served in the main house, in a vey lovely and big room. Large choice of english dishes and also non english. Delicious!
The restaurant in the evening is also very good, lots of meat. You can also have sandwitches for lunch.
The staff was very helpful and professional.
We spend a wonderful time there and would be delighted to go back!

It is good to know that your return visit to us was enjoyed again. It can be difficult to always have a mattress to a guests taste, but please call us and the reception team will arrange a room with a firmer mattress for you when you are able to return to the lakes again, we look forward to welcoming you back
