“Pleasant staff”
Reviewed 11 July 2014 via mobile

We booked our stay through booking.com, great choice,
Room was lovely and comfortable and staff friendly. Not a lot of choice for drinks and a bit over priced, the patio area could of done with some looking at with wobbly flags and uneven ground. The breakfast wasn't the best but put us on til lunch. Great area to stay and could possibly go back of we were ever that way again.

We have looked at your review and have taken on board your comments.
As we stock a varied amount of local beers as well as branded lagers etc we are not sure what type of drinks you were looking for and we did not have .
And we were disappointed that you found breakfast not to be very good.

We were a group of 2 families (4 adults and 4 children ranging from 7-15 years).

I made the reservation by reading reviews and seeing photos on the internet. I usually think that this is a bit risky as there have been cases that one is really disappointed when one lands up at the property.

In this instance, it was actually the opposite. Upon arrival we found the property to be really very pleasant. It was a mix of old world charm and modern amenities. There are some rooms in the old buildings and then there are 10 spacious family rooms which are along the driveway and garden. Since we had opted for family rooms, we got these rooms. (rooms 7 &9)

The rooms were simple yet spacious and very clean. There was a small sit out balcony as smoking is not allowed in the rooms and there is a GBP 50 extra charge for cleaning if one smokes in the rooms.

Being a relatively large property, there were appointed spots for car parking and that is important if you are doing a driving holiday.

The property has a lovely reception area with a cosy living room style sitting area and a large dining room. The property is known for the food that it serves and it certainly did not disappoint.

Breakfast was fantastic and so was dinner. The children were really very comfortable and the serving team were excellent and really very friendly and courteous.

The property is literally 2 mins walk from the main pier (not more than 150-200 meters) and there being a small town, all the restaurants, bars and shopping is within walking distance. We instantly felt at home and our 3 days were thoroughly enjoyable.

We then proceeded to Edinburgh, but decided to cut short our stay there and return to Burn How as we had enjoyed the property and the town so much.

A must do holiday when travelling to England and if you are at Bowness, then the Burnhow Hotel is highly recommended.

Please ensure that you book well in advance as the hotel was totally sold out and we had made our bookings 2 months in advance. On our return from Edinburgh, we only managed to get one night at the hotel, as it was sold out for the following nights !!!

Room Tip: If you want a family room, try to get room 1 to 6, as rooms 7-10 are along the drive way. Room 9 has...

My husband and I and 3 yr old boy stayed here 2 nights. The rooms are plain and older style, definitely only 3 star. The restaurant and reception area are really lovely. The food was excellent and the service very good. The interior design is traditional and well done. Position of hotel in the town is fantastic for eating, drinking, wandering and cruising on the lake. We walked everywhere we needed.

We always love our stay at Burn How. Staff are friendly, cheerful & polite. Location fantastic - Bowness few minutes walk away & yet hotel has a quiet setting to make one's stay relaxing. Our room was well appointed and spacious; every need catered for. Bathroom clean and bright. Dinner was excellent & breakfast is amazing. Surrounding private garden attracts huge range of birdlife - lovely to watch over breakfast. Our stay was very comfortable. Our grateful thanks to everyone for looking after us so well!

Room Tip: Room 21 in the Lodge is spacious (double with a single bed).

Spent 2 nights in June 2014 at the Burn How. We were 2 adults and 2 kids. Spacious family room which was well appointed. Very warm staff and arguably the best breakfast we have had in the UK. If you decide to stay here please do include breakfast in your booking. A stones' throw from the lake, the Burn How at Bowness on Windermere is the place to stay when you visit Windermere.

Room Tip: the wifi was a bit problematic but other than that - it was a perfect perfect place to stay.

We stayed at the Burn How during April 2014 for three nights. The hotel boasts an excellent location (1 minute walk from Windermere lakefront) but is located on a back road so you do not feel the movement of tourists around. Rooms are generally well done though some rooms seemed a bit older and less well kept than the others.

The staff was extremely friendly, gracious and helpful. On several occasions, staff members helped us plan our itinerary and highlighted the key things that we should look out to do while in the Lake District.

The morning breakfast spread was good (though not expansive) and the quality of cooking was discernible. We would recommend this hotel for anybody planning to spend a lovely holiday in the Lake District.

Room Tip: Choose rooms with a view of the garden.

Very good location - less than 5 minutes walk from Bowness Pier. Friendly, approachable staff; excellent breakfast - full English; several vegetarian options - poached eggs, omelettes, scrambled eggs etc. Lots of fresh fruit and cereal. Evening dinner menu looked interesting but we ate in town. Room was spacious (in the house, not the chalets); shower was very good; bed was comfortable, although the floor creaked a lot, but i suppose that was to be expected. There were a couple of minor quibbles, but they did not merit knocking a star off our rating. If you are looking for a quiet getaway, that is still within walking distance of the town centre, then this B&B comes highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the house itself if possible, as we have read several negative comments regarding...
