“What in the name of all that is holy?”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 December 2013

Me, the lady baroness, and the offspring known as splurt happen chanced upon this 'eatery'. Well, the bar man would have been better suited to a working men's club, or working a door. Similarly the waiter, who appeared awkward. Then the young man carving, I've seen more life and enthusiasm for such in road kill.
The meat was dry, the veg also dry and this substance, stuffing apparently, bared resemblance to the excrement of the geese, which thronged about the lake.
For a better evening out with your lady (or man) select a park bench with a multitude of homeless folk and have a good rummage through an adjacent bin!

“What a terrible shame!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 December 2013 via mobile

What has happened to this once delightful, cheap and cheerful place?? Have had numerous meals here in the past during our frequent visits to Bowness and have enjoyed both the breakfast and carvery meals on offer but not sure we will return after our most recent experience. The place now has an air of shabbiness and the staff we encountered possessed meagre people skills, no 'good morning' or smile when serving us: not rude exactly but not polite either. In the past an older chap would serve behind the bar and then clean the tables with gusto and chat and laugh with the customers as he worked. His cheerfulness and that of his colleagues together with the wonderful views and good food made a great combination. Sadly all this is now missing. We had gone to have an early breakfast and were the first customers in there so not sure why we found that some of the tables were dirty. However we settled at a clean window table to enjoy the fabulous view then went to get the food. It was appalling!!! Bacon like greasy shoe leather, sausages and beans barely luke warm, eggs like bullets and soggy, cold hash browns. The whole lot must have been sitting out for an age. The toast that you prepare yourself was the only hot food. More bacon was brought out but strangely that was as tough and no warmer than the first batch however, the freshly fried eggs were an improvement so we ended up having egg on toast and promptly left. This could have been an off day but come on Crown Carvery we know how good you can be but often your only as good as the staff you employ. My husband and I didn't complain at the time, we vote with our feet but on leaving we heard other customers that came in after us complaining bitterly. We won't be back in Bowness till March but will continue to visit your Wirral establishment frequently as that is far superior. Other customers you have been warned.

“Great carvery !”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 November 2013

Sunday evening carvery with my daughter. Live locally and have been here before - sometimes good, sometimes not ! This time was lovely. Kids eat free on Sundays which I only found out on paying. Food selection on the carvery was great. I got over charged for my drinks but on the second round this was sorted efficiently and without quibble, a free soft drink given. The place was fairly busy and a good atmosphere. Would recommend for a cheap and cheerful, fill you up big time meal !

“Great value and taste.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 November 2013

Fantastic value, £4.19 for a carvery. This was an excellent meal combined with amazing value, Fresh, hot meats plated for you and then help yourself to as much veg as you can pile on.....Excellent. Reasonably priced drinks at the bar, staff were very friendly.
