Windermere Hydro Hotel

Lovely welcome for a one night stay. Booked online for a standard room and we got a lake view room with balcony. Although this hotel is in need of a decor cheer up, it's is right in the heart of Bowness. Plentiful breakfast and pleasant service. The only slight downside is this hotel is on a steep hill which isn't a problem for walkers ....
Lovely hotel for a gorgeous stay in the lakes.

Stayed at this hotel on a weekend break, on arrival we found ample parking and a freindly reception.Had to go up to the first floor before we could use the lift but when we got to the room we were met by stunning views across the lake.We decided to order breakfast in the room on both mornings and we wasnt dissapointed ( first rate ).The swimming pool was small but very quiet and relaxing.Would definitely stay here again, its in a good location apart from being up a bit of an hill and the overall stay was great.

Room Tip: Breakfast in bed was great. no need to get up and go down stairs after a late night.

My friend and I booked last minute on Late Rooms this weekend as we were long-distance hiking and weren't sure what day we'd arrive. Having turned up at the hotel a few hours later, covered in mud and full of the various scents of the countryside, the staff were immediately friendly and welcoming.

We were given a room with a view of the lake. The décor is old fashioned, but the hotel should not be judged on that basis. Beneath the flowery valances, the white bed clothes were pristine and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom offered both a shower and a bath, both of which worked perfectly.

Our room included an evening meal - 5 courses for £25 each! There was a substantial choice for the starter, main and puddings and everything we ate was beautifully cooked. The bar was relatively inexpensive for one in a hotel and again, the barman was fantastically friendly - a theme continued throughout or short stay.

The hotel is a 2 minute walk from the Lake Pier, where a lot of the boat and bus tours go from, so it's conveniently placed too.

Our stay also included access to the swimming pool, sauna and jacuzzi but we didn't have time to use them.,

booked room 51 for a mid week break for myself and hubby .. we wanted a room with a view and the room was fantastic great views massive room with sun room overlooking fantastic scenery
until i decided to turn down the bed at 5 pm when i pulled the duvet back the bed was covered in blood i rang down to reception to complain .and all i got was a young man who immediately walked in the room asking if we had been smoking in the room .. we are non smokers .. the he changed the bottom sheet apologized for the inconvenience we were fuming my husband said this is not a very good advert for the hotel . he simply said oh well the chamber maids are polish and do not understand much english .... i then decided to check the rest of the bed only to find blood on the pillows .. so we rang down again .the same young man came up and changed the bed again also put on fresh quilt .. he left again i checked the duvet after he left only to find a huge rip in the duvet .. we rang again he changed the duvet again and said will give you complimentary bottle of wine at dinner . we had to ask for it as my husband wanted to speak to the manager but i smoothed it over because i didn.t want to make our stay with bad feeling
our evening meal took 50 minutes till we were served and we were the last ones down at 8 pm
we got our meal at 8. 50 .. the carpet the room was slippery near the bath room i slipped on it afew times and so did my husband . i did complain about that when we checked out .. also on day 2 the maid did make the bed but the pillows on the bed were not smoothed down and the cushions off the bed were left on the window seat where i put them ... she had hardly touched the room ... we never made any fuss . just let it go . but on the way home we decided we should have really asked for the manager to discuss these issues .. thing is i hate making a fuss .. but the hydro should have at least been made aware of this .. so we are going to write to him tonight ..what a shame it ruined our break .. but would love to go again as the room was great ... the hotel needs a good housekeeper i think .. if i had been the housekeeper i would have been watching that girl like a hawk ...after that fiasco ...

Hotel was very comfortable. Decor old in style and well used over time but this added to the atmosphere. The Staff were helpful and friendly in Bar and Restaurant and on reception. Would recommend for a anyone wishing to visit the beautiful Lake District. Hope to return in the future.

Room Tip: Need a view to make it perfect

I tried to book with a kgb voucher for this hotel. I called in the late afternoon and was promised a call back which did not happen. I then phoned again the next day to book a weekend break, only to be told that teh voucher was not valid for a Friday or Saturday. There was no mention of this on the voucher. I pointed this out to the woman on the phone, who basically told me to like it or lump it with no apology for the unprompted change in terms and conditions. Glad to say when kgb themselves got involved I got a complete refund.

I will never stay at this hotel after the way I was treated. It sounds like they really need to get their act together.
