“A quiet drink ”
Reviewed 2 January 2014 via mobile

On New Year's Day we wanted a couple of drinks after a meal out elsewhere in the village. A great pub full of character nice bar staff, quirky interesting artefacts and fabulous cask ales (so my partner said!) A lovely log fire and very cosy. We will be back!

“A must in Bowness”
Reviewed 18 December 2013

This is the place to go for drinks. Great pub, great ambience. If you're lucky, you get live music. (We didn't try any food so I can't say anything about that)

“atmospheric historic friendly pub”
Reviewed 29 November 2013

A warm welcome meets visitors to this pub. Part of the pub was converted from a blacksmiths workshop and is now the main eating area. There are lots of old features remaining to be viewed along with stuffed animals and pots. We visited in November and there was a nice warm fire glowing to greet us. Food was served hot and was well presented (and affordable). Waiting time was minimal. The service was friendly and with humour.

“Atmospheric Historic Pub”
Reviewed 19 November 2013

Tucked away in the back of the village, this 16th century pub is a must see when you're in the area. Quirkily decorated, with stuffed animals and some well-aged artefacts clinging to the walls, the upper bar boasts a really cosy log fire and a wide selection of ales. The lower bar has a juke box and seemed to be the main draw for groups of tourists, but in our view upstairs is the place to sit, relax and absorb the history of this attractive little pub.
