My husband and I booked this hotel for 2 nights at the beginning of December for our 21st Wedding anniversary. We were very disappointed with the Hotel on arrival being in such a beautiful area we expected a pretty hotel, we parked in the guest parking that looked more like a builders yard, we had read a small one line on the hotel website stating re-decoration taking place but didn't expect the level of construction actually taking place. My one compliment would be the staff on the front desk who couldn't do enough to make our stay pleasant. However we were woken up on both mornings by banging and crashing above our heads (worse than our children we were escaping from!) the level of major works was actually to the extent that in our bathroom bits of the ceiling were falling into the bath! Every time we walked out of our room there were builders everywhere. If we had been warned by the management of the extent of the work taking place we would have booked else where for our precious weekend once a year we spend alone with out the kids. We did complain and we did request to a least be moved but no other rooms were available. I wouldn't recommend anyone to stay at this hotel whilst all the works are being completed unless they are happy to stay on a construction site. Disappointingly we were offered no discount on our room rate by the owner whom I personally complained to, this hotel is striving to achieve high end accommodation with the high end pricing that goes with it I would suggest they still have a long way to go - no phones in the rooms for room service, no bistro table and chairs in the room for breakfast, low quality bedding, if your are used to luxury and expect high standards I would definitely give this hotel a miss, just a few little luxury touches that really make a place special missing - now we were extremely pleasantly surprised by our choice of hotel for our other 2 nights - Bowness Suites - simply stunning!

We are very sorry, as we were at the time, to hear you were disappointed in your stay with us at Aphrodites. We were in the finishing touches of our refurbishment (as advertised on our website) and unfortunately fully booked on the dates you stayed so were unable to allocate you another room. The rooms are in the process of having telephones for reception installed as this is something quite a few regular clients have been interested in and our bedding is all duck down feather bedding of very high quality (this can be changed to non allergy bedding if requested). We are once again sorry you had inconvenience and that we did not meet your expectations.

My wife and I were on our honeymoon and stayed for 3 nights.
From the moment we arrived we could tell this was going to be a fantastic stay.

Front desk were courteous, we were showed around the hotel and then to the immaculate room.
Our room was spotless from head to toe and really stood out against other hotels we stayed at.
Jacuzzi bath with TV in the wall was our highlight.

There was a real luxury feel to the place.

Staff were helpful throughout and nothing was ever too much trouble.

Cooked breakfast is slightly limited but extremely tasty and filling. (There is a varied selection of cereals and juices separately)

Very close to town centre, 3-5 min drive.

Large selection of restaurants and pubs which was a surprise considering the size of the town.

(Portos restaurant is a must. It is not cheap (£80 for 2 people) but you certainly get what you pay for.)

Parking slightly limited at the hotel and no alternatives which can be a headache. It wasn't that busy and we still struggled some days.

Would highly recommend and will look to go back for future anniversaries.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 5 'Paris chic' with jacuzzi bath.

We are so glad you enjoyed your honeymoon break. Thank you for your lovely comments, the foods are all locally sourced and of high standard, we are sorry if you felt the portion small. We apologise about the parking this was as we were having some work done and has now all been completed. We look forward to seeing you for your anniversary.

After a 2 day break here I can comfortably say this is the best hotel I've ever stayed in.

We stayed in December for 2 nights in the Love Suite. Upon arrival we were informed that the TV above the spa bath was not working. By means of apology they went as far as offering us a different room for 2 nights and also would waiver the charge if we chose to have Breakfast in Bed.

We stayed in the Love Suite because the facilities in this room are incredible. You have your very own hot tub in the bathroom (with a TV in the wall in front of it), a large spa bath (with a TV in the wall in front of it), a steam room and shower, a huge round bed with a mirror above (with a TV in the wall in front of it), plus a lounge area with a lovely fire and widescreen TV. It is all complete with lovely decor and towels arranged into swans when you first arrive.

There is also a pool at the hotel which is lovely (not too cold!), plus a sauna and steam room. This is a great area to relax in and due to the the hotel being adults only and relatively small it doesn't get crowded or noisy. We were the only ones using it at the time and it's very peaceful.

Breakfast is great, we had Full English Breakfasts and you also have access to a "help yourself" station, which has cereals, fruit, yoghurts, fruit juices, smoothies, (Prosecco if you fancy starting early!). The staff are very accommodating and helpful, be it when dining or making requests for a taxi to be booked.

On a light hearted note I was a little disappointed as on our first evening, I proposed to my girlfriend in the garden area with tea lights etc, and following this bought a bottle of Champagne. They were aware I had proposed and that we were celebrating, but didn't offer the Champagne for free which I thought might have been a nice touch.

The hotel is in an ideal location; a 3 minute drive from Bowness or a 20 minute walk. We got a taxi into Bowness each night from the hotel which was only £3.50. There's plenty of nice little pubs to try in Bowness and some nice restaurants too.

Overall, if you're looking for a romantic break in the Lake District then look no further than Aphrodite's Lodge. The staff are very friendly, the rooms are out of this world and you are overloaded with great facilities. It is on the expensive side but you get what you pay for and we loved our 2 night stay in the Love Suite at Aphrodite's Lodge.

Room Tip: The Love Suite is a fantastic room.

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback following your break away. We were very sorry one of your TV’s was broken, we had tried to fix it but were waiting for a new TV. We are glad you enjoyed your time with us and give our congratulations on your engagement. Unfortunately we cannot give complimentary champagne with every engagement/honeymoon as we just get so many. We do hope to see you again in the future.
