This is my first review on trip on trip advisor but decided to share our experience as a warning to others.
Booked Springfield cottage , one of the cottages owned by the proprietors of the Brown Horse Inn whilst in the area for a family wedding. The website states: no pets, excellent, wife has acute allergy to pets. After negotiating the precipitous path to the rear door ( front door derelict and unusable) we entered to be greeted by the smell of wet dog and a sign on the door to the sordid scullery shower stating" please clean up after your pets". It was apparent that this shower had been used for hosing dogs clean. Given that the advertised shower over the bath did not exist you had to share with the dogs if you wanted a shower, and you would given the worn out appearance to the bath.Nice. Apart from two of the bedrooms the cottage was pretty poor all round, grubby soft furnishings with a low quality kitchen and kitchen equipment.
In hindsight we should have left immediately, but we decided to risk it. Big mistake!
Overnight my wife suffered a acute allergic reaction, was ill and had to return home and missed the wedding.
I had booked for three nights, left after one but paid for three whilst I was not on my best form ( wife ill, gone home on train, wedding to attend alone )
Upon returning home I realised that we should ask for some recompense given our experience. We contacted the owner with what we took to be a very reasonable request. He has chosen to totally ignore our e mails.
Altogether a salutary and disappointing experience.
