“Thoroughly recommended - an excellent experience”
Reviewed 7 October 2013 via mobile

We expected a 5 star B&B to be very pleasant, if a little homely - but this far exceeded expectations.
On arrival we were greeted warmly and professionally, shown the public rooms and told how to contact staff at any time. The receptionist insisted on helping with the bags and showed us to a room on the 2nd floor. It would not have shamed a boutique hotel. The oak furnishings were complemented by rich wallpaper and fabrics. The tiny but well-presented ensuite shower room had 'White Company' toiletries, and the coffee tray included Viennese Fingers (my favourite!)
There was a pleasant lounge, with a licensed bar - the Sauvignon Blanc was very quaffable and, at about £7 for two glasses, very affordable too.
The bedroom was very warm, but the window opened smoothly, and the double bed gave a comfortable night's sleep. The breakfast room was very smart with white linen and a buffet of cereals, fruit and juices. The cheerful efficient staff served a tasty and filling English breakfast, and the vegetarian option at an adjacent table also looked very good. All in all, the best value for money in a very long time. We will be back!!

Myself and my boyfriend booked a short last minute break for a weekend in Windermere, we were both very impressed with the Woodlands hotel. A short 10-15 minute walk from the centre of Windermere it was set in an ideal location. On arrival we were shown our room and luggage was offered to be taken upstairs as we were on the 2nd floor.

Our room was very well presented, very clean, tidy and cosey. The bathroom was big with a corner power shower and a free standing bathtub, complete with White Company body products. The room offered plenty of room for the 2 of us.

Breakfast on both mornings was delicious, having tried the full English and home made pancakes! All members of staff were very friendly, informative with smiles on their faces.
There are plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from within the area, hence a very good location.

All in all we were very pleased with our stay and thoroughly enjoyed our time. I would definitely recommend this hotel to couples and families of all ages.

We arrived at 8:30 on a Friday night in September with no reservations! This was the 3rd or 4th place we tried. They had one room left. We took it even though at 110 pounds it was more than we wanted to spend. But it was worth it. We spent 3 nights there. The room was comfortable and the bath and shower very good. The people were outstanding. The breakfast was very well done and very good food. We got good advice on the local area and lots of help planning our stay. Would definitely stay there again. It was a short walk to town and a reasonable walk to Bowness and the lake. Ate at "The lighthouse" and enjoyed the food enough to return the next night. Car parking is limited.

Room Tip: Our room was at the top but staff helped carry up our luggage. Don't know which ones would be b...

After reading several good reviews about Woodlands the wife and I decided to spend a few days there on our recent visit to The Lakes.
Our room was situated on the top floor, some 33 steps up a winding staircase which when you are in your 70's becomes rather tiring especially when carrying luggage.
The room itself was in need of refurbishment and the bed can only be described as tortuous. After 3 nights we both had sore hips and were glad to move on to more comfortable accommodation.
We did notice on our trips up and down the stairs that other rooms on lower floors seemed to be much better furnished. Perhaps I might have written a different review had we been given one of these.
Finally I would add that the staff were very friendly and helpful and the morning breakfasts were excellent.

Room Tip: Don't have a room on the top floor !

Many thanks for taking the trouble to review Woodlands, we are obviously disappointed you did not wholly enjoy your stay. It is important to us that you have a special stay and we will always try hard to make sure you do. When you make a booking through an agent, we really have no idea of age or fitness levels so if you need some special requirements it is always best to speak with us direct and to tell us these things. We have two lovely ground floor rooms available and would have been more than happy to put you into one of these. If we don't know however, we will just allocate any room which may mean the top floor. All our rooms where refurbished in 2009 so maybe the stairs just put you off, as they are furnished in similar styles. On a positive we are glad you enjoyed breakfast and that our staff were helpful and friendly. We would love to give you a better impression and hope sincerely you will let us have an opportunity to do so, in one of our lovely ground floor rooms. Please feel free to call us and arrange.

Our children had booked "woodlands" for a surprise mini break to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. On arrival we were shown around the property, and to our room, which was room 16 located in the court yard, which was the room we were hoping for, and is the four poster room in the pictures. We also had a bottle of sparkling wine and chocolates waiting for us.

The hotel wasn't very busy on the first night, as there was only us and another couple in residence, who happened to be in the room directly above us, unfortunately there was some noise, which really is to be expected, we would normally ask for top floor due to the noise levels that come with having rooms above you, wasn't too much of an issue and didn't carry on through the night.

Breakfast was lovely, and definitely no complaints, would definitely visit again due to its fantastic location, 15 min walk into the village of Bowness.

Thanku for a lovely break, would definitely recommend to friends and family in the future, my only regret is that I should have looked at the rooms on the top floor :))

Just returned from Woodlands for a 2 night stay with my husband. I could not fault anything about this hotel. We were placed on the top floor, the room was beautifully decorated, cosy and clean but because of my knee problem I asked if it was possible could we move to a lower floor and equally the next room was the same cosy and clean. Young Anna was very helpful and showed me a few rooms which were available which were on a lower floor. Nothing was too much of a problem for her (very polite young lady). Breakfast "WOW" where do i start there was plenty of choice my husband went for the full English breakfast me on the other hand went for the pancakes they were "gorgeous". I would not hesitate in recommending this hotel, my husband and i will definitely book this hotel again when we visit Windermere.

My partner booked this as a surprise for my 30th birthday and paid £110 per night for 2 nights. We arrived on Friday evening and the hotel was deserted of staff but fortunately as we've stayed twice before we knew where the buzzer was located.
The staff member was very friendly although I was shocked when we were asked to pay the remainder of our bill upfront. This obviously did not happen.
We were shown to room 15 which was also a lovely and picturesque.
Unfortunately as soon as we stepped into the room the smell was not so lovely. We were greeted with a smell that was sweaty and musty. We narrowed it down to the bathroom. My partner informed the staff when we went out half an hour later. We were told that they went and put some odouriser in the bathroom and the window was left open.
On our return the bathroom still smelt very bad and we had to sleep with the window open which meant we were woken very early by traffic.
At breakfast we told the same staff member about the smell and told we could change room. As we had arrangements made we told them we couldn't do this at the time and would on our return to the hotel.
On returning later in the day we spoke to another staff member who said all the rooms were now taken so basically we had to put up with our smelly room.
The staff member came to smell our room and although she admitted to having a blocked nose she could still smell the sweatiness. More odour neutraliser was used and a plumber was offered how ever this would mean we were tied to staying in the room awaiting this and we couldn't have used the bathroom to shower in the meantime. The staff member said the owner was not present (and wasn't throughout our stay) but she would bring it to their attention. She also said they'd previously had plumbing issues.
The following morning at breakfast none of the staff bothered to ask about our smelly room nor did they offer any discount, gesture of goodwill or even an apology. The subject was not raised at all.
Although the breakfast was very nice and the room itself was great, the bathroom was tiny snd anyone with a weight issue would have trouble using the toilet in the space it was in.
The decoration needed updating, it hasn't changed in the last couple of years and for a five star I don't expect gouges in the wall and bird poo from the sky light on the bannister.
Very very disappointed and will not be returning. We have stayed in the lakes many times and know much nicer hotels and b&b's that are better value and staff with better managerial skills. Sadly for us these were booked up.
