Stags Head
Reviewed 31 October 2013

If you take the stags head for what it is good, cheap, well positioned b&b you won't go far wrong and you won't be disappointed. However, If you go expecting the ritz (some of the past reviewers seem to expect this for £65).

We have stayed many times. Sometimes its noisy (so take earplugs). En suites are a bit old - still function well tho. And are clean.

If I was to be really picky the only thing that bugs me is the bottom sheet on the bed always seems to ping off and I end up sleeping on the plastic mattress protector. I am not sure if that's just me tho....

Rooms could do with a refurb, especially the bathroom, yak,,friendly staff, food was ok apart from boiled mushrooms on a full English breakfast spoilt it for me,(fried with a full English).this b&b would suite walkers just to lay their heads for a night or two,,we were there for a weekend break and were disappointed with the room.

Smelly and dull, rooms small and out dated, ok for a base but not to eat or drink in. had a meal once on our stay, food very basic and had to wait for my meal of which my steak was full of fat and over cooked. Windermere was good but the weather won in the end. lesson learnt would not go back there

Room Tip: no don't bother

arrived at stags head bowness on windermere recently and was very dissappointed by the room me and my partner stayed in , it had mould on the tiles and ceiling flaking paint on shower ceiling the pictures on the website are VERY MISLEADING also there is a night club in the basement which is never mentioned. The heating only came on early in the morning which meant if you was in the room at anytime in the day the room was very cold, all in all it was a very depressing and tired room we even had to boil the kettle on the floor. I would not recommend anybody to stay in this hotel especially with children.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Room below average with broken bed head, uncomfortable mattress, no bedside lights, seats or table for tea making facilities. Bathroom very small not enough room to swing a cat but worst of all was the shower which had mould in the grouting. Breakfast was good and service excellent. This is pub accommodation not hotel standard.

Stayed last night when working in the area for a couple of days. Ticked every box for a night away on my own, friendly bar staff, good crack, spacious, clean room, comfortable bed and cracking breakfast.
Location could not be better. Yes its a pub with rooms, but a good pub, though busy and perhaps noisy, but good rooms never the less. Does what it says on the tin.
