“Very good B&B”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 July 2013

Stayed there for 2 nights and were pleased with the experience. Rooms are a bit on the small side and our wash hand basin was in the room next to the bed rather than in the bathroom. We didn't mind but others might. The place was clean and there is a lovely stream at the back of the house. Breakfast was good with a good choice of cereals as well as a cooked breakfast. Hosts are nice and helpful.

All the reviews are right, the hosts, breakfast and setting are nice. The room we had was small, so if you go there, take only one bag for a couple, otherwise the room could be unworkable. The road is quite narrow on the way in, the hosts were excellent with arranging parking.

We were after a stop over in the Lakes to breakup a homeward bound trip from Loch Ness. Not being particulary organised we left it until serious last minute to book this B&B and as coming from a lovely woddland lodge we didn't want the usually corporate 'Travelodge'. Stock Gyhll was perfect!! beautifully cottagey and comfortable, perfect for a road weary couple in need of a warm bed, shower and a local pub to eat in.
Heather and Adrian were so helpful and even their welcome pack says to treat there home as any dear visiting friend would.
Every little touch is thought of, from wind up tourches for guests on the hall table, brolly's in the porch and even a spot to hang damp clothes and boots for those out and about walking during the day. Even the jam at breakfast has a little tale to tell about where it comes from. Sensible breakfast hours are a delight too, no need to get up at silly o'clock to get down for breakfast like some places.

Didn't have much chance to enjoy the waterfall due to the bad weather and the whistle stop visit but would certainly visit again!!

We have just returned from another lovely stay at Stockghyll Cottage, our third with the current owners Heather and Adrian. The cottage is only a ten minute walk from Bowness on Windermere, so great for proximity for places to eat, shops and local transport connections, to other parts of the Lakes. With only three letting rooms the cottage is friendly and intimate and is comfortable and kept scrupulously clean. Heather and Adrian looked after us beautifully giving us lifts to and from Windermere station on arrvial and departure and supplying excellent breakfasts. As a family we more or less took over the place for the week and we honestly couldn't fault our stay. We hope to go back soon.

Room Tip: Just three double letting rooms, two with lake views and one with overlooking the waterfall at the b...

We stayed here for two nights at the end of April and it proved an inspired choice being conveniently close to Bowness town centre and also superbly located for exploring the central area of the Lake Disrict. Our room was extremely comfortable with views to the front across a field and then Lake Windermere.
Breakfast was excellent with fresh fruit, cereals, choice of cooked food, home made bread and locally made jams.
Adrian is a friendly and welcoming host and made suggestions for restaurants. One night we went to Hook'd (recommended by Adrian), a short drive away and serving only fish meals. The other night we walked into Bowness to the Postilion. We enjoyed both and managed without prior booking although both were busy (Saturday and Sunday).
On our last day Adrian allowed us to leave the car there while we walked in to Bowness and took the walkers boat trip for about £9.00 per person. This goes to Ambleside where you change to a smaller boat to Wray Castle (National Trust with a cafe). It is then a walk of about 4 miles along the shore of Lake Windermere to the ferry back to Bowness. This was an excellent day out with lovely views of the lake and surrounding hills.
I would thoroughly recommend this B & B for short breaks.

We could not fault this cottage. The accommodation was good, the breafasts were superb and the hosts were most friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. We could come and go as we wished and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay - in spite of the weather!!

Room Tip: There are three rooms, room 2 being the largest
