Description: Linthwaite House Hotel restaurant overlooking Lake Windermere in the sublime Lake District is a very special place indeed. With views that would have thrilled Wordsworth, Linthwaite House Hotel has chosen luxurious, tasteful interiors to please even the most jaded urbanite and the kitchen, under chef Simon Bolsover, is daring and modern too. Fresh, local ingredients conspire in a signature dish like 60 Degree Herdwick Lamb with braised neck kataifi, cep and kidney risotto. Choose from light lunch menu on the terrace, daily changing table d’hote menu or simpler a la carte in the elegant dining room, with its vast mirror collection, in the evenings, vegetarian menu, or trad Sunday lunch, all accompanied by a blistering global wine list.

We have just visited friends in Bowness and we went to the hotel restaurant for dinner one evening. We had wonderful service and food. It was dark when we arrived so we missed the scenic views. They paid great attention to detail and the staff and service was excellent.

The position overlooking the lake is absolutely brilliant.

This is matched by fantastic food and service to make for a first rate stay.

We have been on a few occasions to the Linthwaite so know what to expect, and got married here. We went here for a meal whilst on holiday in Bowness in October 2013.

The menu is a four course meal for £52 a head, excluding tips and drinks. They request you get here 30 minutes before for pre dinner drinks and also to have canapés and to pick your starters and mains. The lounge areas are very relaxing and the views are amazing and therefore you may just want to sit there and have your canapes and drinks.

Then its a case of being shown to your table, the food was great as always, as was the service. Slightly let down by the waitress not knowing the food we had ordered however it was her first night and in the past Simon has been very good at detailing whats what so to speak. The partridge was the best I have ever had and the lamb was delicious also. A lobster and leek starter wasn't really for me but Im glad I chose it nonetheless. The bread they serve is homemade and warm, and fantastic with butter.

After dinner it was time to have coffee and petit fours (this is extra 3.95 a head) well worth it and have this in the Lounge as opposed to the dining rooms, the petit fours are delightful and so is the coffee.

Whilst the food is delicious it is the staffs attention to detail what makes this place special, its very friendly, professional and the best service received in a restaurant. Rob and Simon are exceptional at their jobs.

Well recommend also walking across to the the tarn in the grounds before dinner to take in the scenery.

This was not the first time we have eaten here as we stayed there a couple of times a few years ago. However, decided to go back for our tenth anniversary meal, not a bad decision at all! Both the food and the service were excellent, and deserving of full marks. This is not the place to go to if you want to fill up on basic nosh but if you have a special occasion and fancy a taste of fine dining you could do a whole lot worse that going to Linthwaite.

For £52 for the dinner menu, drinks and coffee are extra, it is very good value. All the little things that make up the visit, like the petit fours and the after dinner chocs if you go for coffee really are a top draw touch.
