Description: Linthwaite House Hotel restaurant overlooking Lake Windermere in the sublime Lake District is a very special place indeed. With views that would have thrilled Wordsworth, Linthwaite House Hotel has chosen luxurious, tasteful interiors to please even the most jaded urbanite and the kitchen, under chef Simon Bolsover, is daring and modern too. Fresh, local ingredients conspire in a signature dish like 60 Degree Herdwick Lamb with braised neck kataifi, cep and kidney risotto. Choose from light lunch menu on the terrace, daily changing table d’hote menu or simpler a la carte in the elegant dining room, with its vast mirror collection, in the evenings, vegetarian menu, or trad Sunday lunch, all accompanied by a blistering global wine list.

We were lucky to visit on an afternoon we could sit outside. Such a gorgeous setting.

Afternoon tea was delicious. And service quintessentially english! Like a butler!

The highlight was the yoghurt and compote shot glasses. Just delicious! And an unexpected addition to your typical afternoon tea. Cakes (carrot cakes, victoria sponges, brownies and more) lovely, but if I had to be very honest the balance was just too much on the sweet side for me. Three whole tiers of cakes/scones plus the yoghurt. Personally, I like a couple more finger sandwiches to and maybe a couple less cakes. Lovely as they all looked we just didn't have sweet enough tooth(s) to get through them all.

Also, it would be nice if the waiter could let us know the sandwich fillings before bringing them out as waiters have done at other places I've had afternoon tea. Because if there's egg I have chance to say we don't eat it and request it be replaced, which some places have been happy to do.

However, still thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would recommend.

The bonus being that a little robin landed on our table and stayed with us for a couple of minutes!!

After enjoying dinner the evening of our arrival, we decided to book the next two nights as well, since it seemed unlikely that we would find any dining substantially superior and the advantage of being able to retire after a few glasses of wine—rather than drive on the narrow, winding roads—was obvious. By the time we finished, we had sampled nearly every dish on the menu (except the desserts) and found them all to be at the same high level.

Popped in for afternoon tea on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Staff were very friendly and gave us a choice of sitting in or outside. We went outside and ordered our afternoon tea. A delicious tray of sandwiches were presented beautifully but obviously the best bit was the scrummy cakes! Well, 2 scones with cream and home made damson jam, carrot cake, mini Victoria sponge, pistachio brownies, a strawberry tart with amazing cream AND a delicious fruit compote with vanilla yogurt - well we rolled out of there! Beautiful place, excellent food and stunning views, well worth a visit.

We stayed here with the kids and booked two rooms for the long weekend. The hotel oozes Lake District charm and the views from every angle are simply breathtaking. The afternoon tea was delightful. Staff attentive and catered for the kids well. We both had in room massages which were sublime.
