Stayed in the hotel for a weekend in the lakes, great location in the heart of bowness. 5 minute walk to the lake and less to the shops and cafe's. Nice feel to the hotel and our greeter (Andrew) seemed very friendly and ther is a nice and quiet bar area which again fend a nice feel. I stayed in room 6, great four poster bed and overall a nice room if dated in a quirky but good way. Some slight negatives include bed being very noisy (creeking if you turn in the night), quite a hard mattress (not my thing), noise from room above (children/little elephants) and it's on the main road with original sash windows so again a bit noisy. All rounded to an OK night sleep but not great.
Overall I liked the hotel, great base for the lakes at a reasonable price.

We stayed at the Lonsdale House during February 2012 and had a great stay. The Hotel has a brilliant location and is really easy to find on the main road into Bowness-on-Windermere. You can walk into Bowness in a couple of minutes and the lake is no more than a five minute walk (downhill) away.
We were in room 11 which is the "apartment" room. It was lovely, clean, great size and situated away from the main house. The room had a en-suite, tea and coffee facilities with biscuits, a TV with DVD player and a complimentary jug of Sherry. Room looked out over the car park and some houses which isnt the best view but I was told you could get lake view rooms. Breakfast was great, full English with Eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, mushrooms, tomatoes. Toast, yogurts and cereals also available and a variety of fruit juice. Bar area is lovely and reasonably priced for a few drinks in the evening.
Staff were wonderful and friendly and will give you brilliant advise on restaurants, walks and places to visit.
My only slight complaints are about the car park, very small and there was a bit of a situation when we were leaving Sunday morning with other guest blocking other cars in. However the staff were really great with sorting it all out.

Just returned from one night at the Lonsdale and we all loved this hotel. It only has 10 bedrooms and a little bar, which is only open at weekends. The staff were very welcoming and the hotels key selling point has to be it's location - only a few mins walk from the centre of Bowness and it has a small car park at the rear. The rooms were very comfortable, we stayed in room 1 - family room with a double bed and 2 singles, the shower room was quite small but was perfectly adequate for our short stay.

Overall, very good and we all agreed that we would stay here again.

My 2 daughters and I stayed here in December and what a lovely stay we had. The Hotel is more a guest house but a very cosy one. The lounge and bar area are lovely and we enjoyed a drink and a game of scrabble after a day out sightseeing in this lovely town and area. The room was comfortable and clean and the caraffe of sherry was a lovely touch, but I must say the bathroom was very small and the shower even smaller! The best thing about the place is Andrew the Manager who greeted us warmly at the door when we arrived carrying our luggage to our room and generally making us feel very welcome, when he wasn't there over the weekend it wasn't quite the same. While the other staff are friendly they don't quite have that little bit extra that Andrew can offer to guests. I would recommend this hotel.

Thank you, thank you for making our honey moon so special. We really had the best stay. We were on a tight budget and we did not expect to stay somewhere as nice and as special as the Lonsdale for the price we paid. Staff amazing and so welcoming and helpful. Ask Andrew for advise on some great walks. Breakfast was amazing and we did not need any lunch. The room was clean with plenty of space and lovely decor. I can not praise this place enough and we will definately return and recommend to friends and family.

Room Tip: The Four Poster was perfect for our honeymoon

After booking a holiday cottage in the middle of nowhere for the week in kentmere (big mistake!) we decided to have one night in bowness on Windermere that we had stumbled across the day before. It is so much better than Windermere itself, with lots of interesting and shops and restaurants. We picked Lonsdale house from trip advisor and gave them a ring, a very pleasant man answered and said the room rate was £55 and that he'd give us a last minute upgrade to a four poster room! On arrival, we had a warm welcome by Andrew (who gave us some of the best customer service we have ever received during our stay!) and were shown to our room. The room itself was small, but clean with complimentary sherry. The stay was wonderful overall with top-notch service throughout. The bar was small and cosy for an evening drink and we asked Andrew advice on where to go for dinner and were recommended the best places to go in the town which was very handy. Breakfast was very good also. Would highly recommend!

This hotel is very handy, close to the middle of the town, but I'm afraid it was not as nice as I was expecting for the money. The room was dated and all needed a refurb. The staff were very friendly and helpful, but it was all quite basic, given that there are other hotels locally for the same amount of money with swimming pools, etc.
