We stayed in a deluxe double room just for a night - room was spacious and clean with a lovely four-poster bed. Bathroom was small, but functional, and could maybe do with a bit of TLC.
Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Breakfast had a good selection (and a menu to choose from for cooked breakfast), and was promptly served after ordering, so no complaints at all. Location of the hotel was great, right on the main road down to Bowness. Would suggest requesting not to be on the ground floor in the summer, as we were in Room 2 at the front of the house and didn't feel we could open the window at night, so were roasting. However, would definitely recommend this as a great place to stay!

We are a family of 5, we stayed in the deluxe family room where we all fit comfortably. The room was spacious enough with a modern shower room ensuite and comfy beds.
The location is brilliant, within 5 mins of the lake, shops n restaurants. Breakfast was lovely and filling. We had a veggie full English everyday, and you can pick and choose if you wanted beans/eggs etc. the kids enjoyed the breakfast too.
This is our 1st visit with the kids but 2nd for my hubby n I.
We love the lakes and hope to visit again soon.
The Lonsdale will be top of our list to stay again. Thank you to Monica for booking our stay and always smiling!

Ok, so this is not a typical B&B as its slightly more "hotel" but one that serves only breakfast. The "home" feeling, if thats what you are looking for, is missing. However, Andrew who owns it is very friendly, very charming & very helpful for the hours that he spends there - mostly from afternoons to early evenings. Unfortunately, the same cant be said about the rest of the staff who seem to be distictly "uncomfortable" doing whatever they are - whether its cleaning your room or serving you breakfast! I told Andrew that & he kind of acknowledged that. That said, the location is outstanding, the rooms very well appointed, the beds very comfortable & a decant of sherry in the room is always there!! This one is also a place which has an in-house bar in the basement so just in case you feel like having a drink/ale, its there. And I must add, staying in the bowness area is better that staying in windermere proper, which though is only a 15 mins walk. But the bowness area, where lonsdale is located is closer to the lakes, shopping & restaurants, if thats your deal. Outside noises are completely cut out so no worries on that count either. If only the other staff, wore a smile, this would have received 5 star ratings....Andrew, are you listening my friend?

Thank you for your excellent review and for mentioning our 'outstanding location, well appointed rooms and comfortable beds'. We have all new top of the range Sealy Mattresses in the rooms which are incredibly comfortable and very popular with guests. The Lonsdale was formally a hotel for 58 years and so benefits from the 'hotel feel' having the lounge and bar area and you do not feel although you are sharing somebody's home as is the feeling and style in many of the guesthouses in the area. It is great that you noticed the little touches such as the Sherry in the room and the Lake District Toffee and our fantastic well stocked bar. Feedback is always welcome and the temporary staff we had at the time of your stay were quickly brought up to speed. We are back to our full time regular staff now so hopefully we will warrant the fifth star when you return. All the very best.

We booked this B/B from their website which portrayed it as a 4 star hotel this is definitely not the case. The staff were friendly and accommadating but we did not see much of them . Breakfast was good there was a wide choice of fruit juices and cereals and the full english had all you could ask for. The rooms however left a lot to be desired they were a lot smaller than they appeared on the photo`s, it was the small details like fittings in the bathroom being loose or rusting. All that is needed is a little more care with touching up paintwork and repairing fittings. However on our last night we were asked to vacate the bar at 10pm so that the young man who was on duty could close and go and pick up a friend on his way home. The bar is supposed to stay open during the week untill 10.30. Through this we found out that there appears to be no staff on duty during the night and therefore it makes you wonder what happens incase of fire or an emergency. It is with all this in mind that we have come to the conclusion that we will not be paying the Lonsdale a return visit.

Room Tip: We had a front room which is on the road which during the day and early evening is busy, this was not...

We stayed at Lonsdale Hotel for 2 nights on 24-26th April 2013. We have 2 small children and booked the large family room, think it was room 7. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, especially the chap who booked us in. He told us there were DVD's and games for the children.

They were more than accommodating for the fact we were staying with other family, who also stayed there, and they set out a larger table for us for breakfast in the morning. Breakfast was really tasty, poached eggs recommended!

Everything was nice and clean. Room good size for the 4 of us.

The only negatives were that we were located right on the front of the hotel and cars passing could be quite noisy. There was little traffic going past after 10pm so it didn't affect us getting to sleep. It is also located on a busy road so a little tricky when going out and about, we were a little concerned the children would run out into the road but don't let this put you off.

The location of the B&B is very good. Right on the doorstep to all the lovely shops and restaurants in Bowness. We would definitely stay at Lonsdale House again and would recommend it to all our family and friends.

Room Tip: Try to get a room at the back of the B&B just to avoid the bit of noise from the road.

just returned from a two night break in the lakes. The hotel was clean maybe could do with a lick of paint here and there but thats just being picky. The room we stayed in had a four poster which was novel the room had everything in including a small decanter of sherry and some toffees which we thought really quaint. The hotel staff were very nice and helpful. the breakfast really set us up for the day, with plenty of choice, would certainly recommend.
