My wife and I recently stopped at this hotel, we were put in room 9 which is beautifully decorated with a four poster bed, the views are right across the lake. The staff are so friendly and can not do enough for you. The breakfast was really good with plenty of extra coffee and toast offered. The hotel is a five minute walk into the town centre, ideally located for the shops, restaurants and pubs. I would recommend this hotel and we will be stopping there again, thank you.

What a wonderful experience. We booked Lonsdale House as a last minute affordable break and for what we paid we were not expecting to much so what a pleasant surprise we had. On arrival we were greeted by Andrew who was great. We were showed to our room which was fantastic. Beautiful Four Poster Bed, Laura Ashley Leather Sofa and lovely wall paper and period colors to match - delightful. The rest of the staff were equally friendly and helpful. The breakfast was superb with local produce - my hubby loved it ('a proper breakfast'). We will definitely be back and recommend to friends and family. Keep up the good work :)

Room Tip: The Four Poster Room was beautiful.

Booked a last minute room here with my family on our way back from Scotland. Parking at the front was handy and entrance hall and reception room/bar were tidy and clean. First impressions of the room was good but then the cracks appeared. What I initially had thought was wood panelling was wallpaper - had the same effect in the breakfast room with 'books' wallpaper. Taps in the bathroom were not secure and moved. My son dropped some coins behind he bed (a lovely four poster one) and in an effort to retrieve them I noticed a large amount of dust underneath. Maybe the cleaner now has a reason to clean there as the three quid remain-didn't fancy crawling underneath to recover them. Having said all this, the rooms were a good size and comfy warm. The complementary sherry was nice as were the couple running the place and the breakfast was lovely and filling. Shame some areas let this place down.

I have just returned from a three-day visit to Bowness having visited with my wife and 14-year old son. We have stayed in Bowness on several occasions but this was our first visit to Lonsdale House. The first thing that is noticeable about the hotel is the extremely friendly staff; they showed us around and made us very welcome as soon as we walked through the door. The hotel itself is very well located, just five minutes walk from the town centre and an approx 15-minute stroll to Windermere town to the north. Tastefully decorated, the rooms are clean and well presented and ours came with a four poster bed and a single bed for our son. The bathroom is very small in size (shower not suited to the larger types!) but fine for us. The hotel has a small but welcoming bar area where you can relax in comfort. Car park to the rear is small but the staff have certainly got the art of parking down to a T! Breakfast each morning was excellent and served very quickly and certainly set us up for our days walking.

The only negative I can give is the wi-fi reception. If like us you are accommodated on the top floor there is no chance of receiving the signal so if you rely on the internet when away then you will have to be prepared to sit in the lounge area downstairs.

Overall a very pleasant stay and a hotel we will certainly frequent again.

Room Tip: If your life depends on accessing the internet via wi-fi, ask for a room downstairs.

Stayed here with my wife and 2 year old a few weeks ago for two nights. We were made to feel very welcome by Andrew at check in and throughout the stay. We had a family room for 2 adults and 1 child which was very pleasant, nice little bar downstairs in the hotel with some games available for the children to play with.

We were very happy with are stay up until the last day at breakfast, this is where the but comes in. On the second morning we sat down for breakfast only to be told with no explanation we had a table set up on its own in the bar area next to the check in desk (not great having people coming to check out while your eating your breakfast) On the first morning we had breakfast in the main breakfast room with everyone else, they came over with a booster seat for my little boy who was well behaved and didn't leave the seat. So being asked to move on the second morning really made us feel unwelcome, because we had a toddler?? It wouldn't have been so bad if the breakfast room was full and if that was the case surely the last people down for breakfast would be put in the bar area. I was hoping to see Andrew about this before we left but he wasn't there when we checked out.

Overall a good little hotel in a great location, but left on a bit of a sour note.

Just returned from a second visit to the lonsdale for a three day break and was just as impressed as the first time. Andrew and his staff are the consummate hosts who work very hard to maintain the highest of standards. A nice feature of the hotel is the cozy little bar downstairs which is relaxed and not too pricey. Finally I read a review which stated the breakfast was average, I would love to see what some people eat at home as the breakfast is superb.
