“worth finding this little gem”
Reviewed 24 June 2014

The food was absolutely amazing and views spectacular especially if the weather good and you can sit outside. I would advise booking for the upstairs restaurant as you cannot book for the bar area. We got there about 7pm and had ben waiting for an hour for a table in the bar area as it was too cold to sit outside. However an obliging waitress realised we had waited a long time and accommodated us in the upstairs dining room which was for residents and people who had booked a table

“first visit in ten years”
Reviewed 22 June 2014

After ten years away I thought it likely that standards would have slipped. Remarkably the atmosphere and food were as good as I remembered. Whitebait, not commonly available in much of the country, was a delight. It was lightly coated in a pleasing mix of spices. My daughter had a superior fishcake with a creamy sauce and I had a venison burger. Both came with accompaniments and decent chips (something that most places struggle to produce). The interior of the pub is attractive but we were able to sit on the terrace and enjoy the fine view. Prices typical for the Lake District but well worth it.

“Excellent food & service”
Reviewed 17 June 2014

We had a fantastic meal here recently. The menu was diverse enough to be interesting without being overwhelming. The quality of the food was outstanding and the service was great as well.
We ate in the dining room upstairs and both that and the pub downstairs were decorated in a cute quaint English pub style.
Highly recommend the black pudding entree!

“Good potential, poor delivery”
Reviewed 3 June 2014 via mobile

Joined friends for lunch. Good menu choice and staff initially helpful. Two of us ordered a main course off the 'specials' menu. It tasted excellent however the portion side was very disappointing; only marginally larger than a 'starter' size and costing over £15.
We were further disappointed when we were told that no deserts were available due to there now being only one member of staff left. Nobody bothered to give us advanced notice.
Such a pity as it has the potential to be a good experience.
