“£89.13”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 June 2014

That's what I bid at a charity auction to win a night at Abbey House Hotel. On arrival we were shown to our room and told about the hotel on the way to our room. What a fantastic room and bathroom, very big and spacious. We decided to stay in the hotel and chill out, room service was excellent and the food was out of this world. Although there was a wedding at the hotel we did not hear a thing, and they even had a live band. All the staff were friendly and always willing to help with anything( even getting our bag from the car). Overall we'll worth a visit even if you do pay more than £89.13.

This is our fourth visit to this hotel and had a wonderful stay. We stayed in the main upgraded building in a deluxe room and were very impressed with the standard of the refurbishment. As always the standard of service and the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff was first class. We dined in oscars on both evenings and the standard of food was excellent. The only problem was Saturday night the restaurant was very very busy and we we were unable to book a table until 9pm and we're not taken to our table until 9.45 however the restaurant manager and staff apologised for keeping us waiting. Breakfast was as always excellent and filling we had buffet self service first morning owing to the large number of guests staying and waitress service the following morning and were very happy with both . Would not hesitate recommending this hotel for either a weekend break or a special I am sure this will not be our last stay here And will be our first choice when staying over in the lake district

Many thanks Gary for your recent review, I'm very glad you enjoyed your recent stay with us at Abbey House Hotel & Gardens.
The refurbishment is being very well received. Oscar's restaurant has opened with great success achieving it's first rosette!
I look forward to your next visit where you can enjoy a complimentary upgrade!
Many Thanks

Stayed here last week and they have just done up the main part of the hotel the lovely old building however that's the problem! If you are a long term guest you are now shunted off into the old run down part separate from the hotel were the rooms are shabby beds poor and noisy. The new part is reserved for wedding reception type guests which they are specialising in now for which they charge a premium on the rooms added to that the bar is now packed and wedding guests all over it means a poorer service for long standing guests.

Room Tip: Tyr and get a main building room don't be fobbed off with the annexe

I was very sorry to read of your recent review of Abbey House Hotel & Gardens, it shouldn't have been the experience you received.
Very occasionally we do hold mid week weddings which can encroach on our corporate guests stay. We do endeavour to position guests away from the noise as much as possible to alleviate that very problem. This shouldn't be to your detriment though.
There was never going to be an easy way to organize the refurbishment on the scale of what we have achieved at Abbey House Hotel & Gardens........6 months ago our guests preferred the annexe which will catch up to the same standard in the near future.
Oscar's restaurant should remain wedding guest free as they all receive a complimentary private bar area, I'll be sure to see that this is being maintained for our residents enjoyment.
Please do accept my sincere apologies and a complimentary upgrade on your next visit. I hope to speak with you about your experience in the near future.
Kind Regards
John Horton

Fabulous Hotel! Lovely staff, excellent food and new luxurious surroundings, yet still retaining the original features of a listed building.

Baby Henry's (6 weeks old) first holiday, nothing was too much trouble from the moment we arrived. Thanks to all the staff for first class service.

You have to experience Abbey House to appreciate just how good it really is.

I stayed here for a family wedding and we had a 2 night B&B package. The hotel and grounds are beautiful and fantastic for wedding parties and the outside photographs. We had a room in the newer annexe which was fine and overlooked a quiet lane so no traffic noise, and we did not hear any noise from within the hotel. However the rooms and the hotel in general were extremely warm even without the heating on and only one of the windows opened due to the handle on the other being missing. Unfortunately the breakfast service on both mornings was extremely slow with waits of up to an hour for the cooked options. We complained twice and were told this was due to the amount of wedding guests being accommodated and the size of the kitchen. If this hotel is so popular for weddings then the kitchen needs to be expanded to cater for the overnight guests.

I was sorry to read of your breakfast experience over the weekend of your stay, I hope it didn't take the shine off your special day.
We have put an optional silver service breakfast in place and this has helped greatly in that last half hour of the busy weekend. We have also introduced a brunch service so that our guests can have the extra long lie in if they desire and avoid the crowds.
Abbey House Hotel & Gardens is indeed a beautiful venue and I truly hope you had a lovely day.
I hope to welcome you back with a complimentary room & brunch upgrade in the near future.
Kind Regards
John

Good hotel, stayed in newly refurbished part and room was well appointed. Excellent restaurant and bar, staff couldn't do more for you. But..... Wedding on and guests were very noisy, electronic door locks that beep loudly up and down the corridor is torture, smoking shelter just outside window where noise intrudes again into ones peace. Stay on a night without a party and it's 4.5 but otherwise good luck....

Room Tip: Away from great hall...

Thanks very much for your review Stephen, I'm sorry your stay wasn't as peaceful as hoped. We are Cumbria's best wedding venue three times running and a very popular choice in the Lakes, sometimes this does result in a bit of excess revelry!
A good point on the doors, I'll look at getting the tone turned down and avoid an unnecessary disturbance.
Next visit, please do ask for a party free weekend and we'll do our best to help out, a complimentary room upgrade and a bottle of fizz on arrival should help relax you back into Abbey House Hotel & Gardens.
Kind Regards
John

This is a great place to stay
Really friendly service, nice rooms.

The serving staff at the bar and restaurant are fantastic.

The food is good and I am sure in time will be great but my guess is they are still putting the right team together in the kitchen.

You're right on the money here with your review Mark, very insightful indeed.
The team is coming together really well, being reflected in the great food & service we are able to offer at Abbey House Hotel & Gardens.....is that first rosette on the horizon?!
Be sure to let us know your favourite wine on your next visit and I'll make sure a bottle finds it's way to your table.
Kind Regards
