“fantastic would stay again”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

attended friends wedding this wknd stayed the friday and saturday in the lodge part which is a separate building to the hotel stunning location, room was beautiful tea coffee facilities in the room. iron and ironing board also in room. bed was very comfortable. tv in bathroom aswell as in bedroom ideal if you take ages in the bath. will definately stay again. handy having ground floor room due to being eight months pregnant, and a stones throw to location of wedding. breakfast choices where great too. option to have self service in the rooms but we loved socialising in the breakfast bar. plenty of choices for all dietary requirements. because we where near the road you do notice slight road noise but to be honest it didnt make any difference to our stay or sleep. staff always around to assist with anything overall fantastic stay

May we offer our congratulations on your imminent arrival!
We were very glad to read that you had enough room and were comfortable in the Cavendish Suite, the Lodge in the grounds is an ever popular choice for many of our guests and a nice retreat away from the party!
The refurbishment has seen some great changes to the main house bedrooms with some very well appointed family rooms that you should try with our compliments to celebrate your new arrival!
Kind Regards & Good luck!

The last time I stayed here they had started the refurb, but WOW, I wouldn't of recognised the hotel.

What an amazing transformation they have achieved.
Without doubt the best hotel in the south lakes

Won't be booking anywhere else next time I am back on business

An Amazing review for an Amazing Hotel! Thanks very much indeed, we do try to make all of our guests as comfortable as possible during their stay at Abbey House Hotel & Gardens.
The multi million pound refurbishment has indeed established us as THE number one venue in the South Lakes.
We're looking forward to your next visit where you can enjoy a complimentary bottle of Oscar's wine.
Many Thanks

Went on a groupon champagne afternoon tea bed and breakfast offer. Disabled room so got one in main building. Lovely room. Couple of issues though which I mentioned to reception so hope they get sorted for next occupant.
Restaurant and bar nicely decorated. Afternoon tea was ok...... had an issue with the gluten free option though even though I had called only last weekend to re clarify....
Bar was quiet in evening but all empty glasses were left on end of bar next to where we were sitting... its the little things I notice that spoil a place.
Breakfast was disappointing. I had the full English... but.... as we dined towards the end of the session got the impression that all had been cooked earlier and kept warm.. apart from the poached eggs which were fine. Lady next to us complained about her eggs benedict for the same reason.
Staff were lovely though and genuinely seemed concerned about any issues.

Room Tip: We had a ground floor in old building and could hear the people in room upstairs walking around... a...

I was sorry to read that you didn't enjoy aspects of your recent stay at Abbey House Hotel & Gardens.
The well-appointed disabled rooms in the main house are indeed a delight, the issues you raised have been rectified for all on-going bookings.
The Hotel and Oscar's restaurant have just come to the end of an exciting refurbishment and were working through some snagging points that have come with the new design, I'm pleased to say the glasses are no longer a problem.
We offer a vast array of breakfast options and I am sorry you were let down on this occasion. Please do come back and join us for a complimentary B&B stay, I'm sure you'll agree that your issues were an out of the norm faux pas, on a normally faultless service.
Kind Regards
John Horton

The building and grounds are very impresive, but what let the Abbey down is the finish of the refurbishment. I spent 3 night at the Abby for a buiness trip.

The rooms were of a good size and has most thing you expect from a 4 star hotel, but was missing an electronic safe and a mini bar.
The refurbishment in the room also had a lot of over paint on the fitting, my room was also very hot and no a/c or temp control, so even sleeping with both windows open the room remained very hot.

The new part of the building is very close to a train track, and northern trains seen to blow their horns a lot.

Breakfast start at 6.45am, but the service was very slow.

In summary, if I was to pay i would not chose this hotel due to all the points metioned.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the old building, as new extension is close to the train tracks.

I was sorry to read of your recent experience at Abbey House Hotel & Gardens.
The refurbishment has yet to take place in the extension part of the building, the newer wing by the railway, so I do apologise about the inconveniences you encountered but we are well on the way to finishing the entirety of the refurbishment in due course.
We do offer an express checkout and breakfast service, many items can be ordered to your bedroom 24/7 all detailed in the guest directory.
We do have a secure safe facility at our guests disposal via a receipt system at reception and offer 24/7 bar service for guests that require it.
Please do accept my apologies and visit again, I would happily organize a complimentary B&B stay so you can understand that this is not our true form.
Kind Regards
John Horton

Stayed for first time despite having relatives in Barrow and visiting every month. My wife and I cannot understand having now been and stayed and dined that we have not made this our hotel of choice when staying in Barrow,
The hotel and grounds from the outside are stunning coupled with a nice walk down to the abbey. The bar is modern but totally in keeping with the style of the hotel. We stayed in a standard room in the new wing and was informed they had not yet been renovated. If this is what a room is without decorating, then they will be more sublime than they already are. Lovely bedding and pillows and beautiful towels and spotless bathrooms with good shower.
Oscars restaurant is a total delight not only on the eye but more importantly on the taste. This was by far one of the best meals we have had in a long time,we both had starters, main course and desert. It could not be faulted and for food of this quality the price was very good,
This will not be our last stay and neither will it be our last meal. The hotel and food are of a very high standard and quality, Well done.
