spur of the moment yoga retreat for the bank holiday.

i practise yoga with mercedes in london (triyoga) and have heard plenty good things about the resort she runs in devon wiht her husband (conde nast rates this place too) so when she advertised a 4 day yoga retreat with music, awesome food & amazing yoga i leapt at the chance. yeotown is renowned for its detox retreats so to be able to scoff good food whilst doing yoga was too good an opportunity to pass up.

arrived early evening on friday on the train from paddington, 2 hours to tivington & then a 45 minute car journey to yeotown. you are literally in the middle of nowhere (nowhere being somewhere in north devon) in the most beautiful house with gardens so lush you will die. i shared accomodation above the yoga studio, exquisite furnishings & spa-like bathrooms. what felt like 400 thread count bed linen & the best 3 nights sleep i have had in a long time.

delicious breakfast served from 7:30 in the humungous french-style kitchen (complete with aga!!) and then mercedes started the yoga off with a 2 hour 9:30 am class. drenched in sweat & stretched within an inch of my life, treated to a post-yoga freshly made juice, freshly showered too, i headed to the biggest couch in the world in front of a lovely fire & proceeded to read myself into a coma for 4 hours. this set the pace & the tone for my next 3 days at yeotown.

sauna is available, hikes are arranged on request, beach trips if you fancy, horse riding, of course yoga, herbal tea of every variety, beautiful walks and even lovelier staff work at this divine retreat.

i honestly can say it was the best stay i have had in the uk, highly recommend & i will be back.

My husband and I have just returned from Yeotown skin glowing and full of energy. It was his 4th visit and my 3rd. I guess that say's it all! The 5 day Yeotox programme, nourishes mind body and soul, boosts fitness levels and educates you in nutrition and general well being. There's yoga, hiking in beautiful locations with spectacular scenery, fitness, meditation, and delicious organic detox food by Julia. Simon and Mercedes are wonderful hosts to the programme, and together with their amazing team make sure that the Yeotox experience, whilst challenging is also great fun. We will return.

A beautiful building in a stunning location with the warmest and most genuinely smiley staff I have ever seen. Who knew a detox could be so enjoyable?! Looking forward to my return in the not too distant future.

This was a fantastic five days with just the right mix of fitness, good detox food and space to unwind from the nine to five. A knowledgable and welcoming team who know how to deliver an efficient service which is also homely and personable. North Devon made a perfect setting and what is more the weather held out too!

I came to Yeotown for the New Year Yeotox - a four-day detox programme - and came away feeling lighter (in mind and body) and more energised that I'd imagined possible. Simon and Mercedes have brought together a wonderful team, including brilliant cook Julia in particular, all there to create an experience that is challenging, nourishing, rewarding and enlightening in equal measure. The space is harmonious and luxuriously cosy, and the surrounding landscape just breathtakingly beautiful. Between yoga, exhilarating hikes, gong meditation, daily deep tissue massage, core fitness workouts, sauna, and more, a perfect balance is struck. All the while we were so warmly looked after, and fed with truly delicious food. A wonderful, wonderful experience!

Yeotown is the perfect venue for a retreat or as a base for an adventure exploring the moor and sea of North Devon.

The property has interesting art, reclusive corners, open outdoor spaces, places where you can be introspective and indulge or sit with a companion and gas by the fire. I recommend it to male professionals who want to perk up life with a no nonsense taster of a healthy lifestyle to which they (at better moments) aspire. I visited to take part in a warrior weekend; the aim being to break my relationship with bad eating habits and to take on challenging and inspiring hikes / runs / sea adventures. Food intake is meticulously planned to give all the nutrition needed ad no more. It was all delicious, a feeling heightened by not over indulging.

I found the staff attentive, skilled, personable and inspirational; and returned home having rediscovered a little bit of the warrior within.

My time at Yeotown was more than I could ever have imagined - it was by far one of the best, most life-changing experiences of my life. I feel like a changed person.

Everyone worked so hard to ensure that the programme ran like clockwork and my time would not have been the same without the team there; Davy - who kept us so motivated on our hikes and was a true inspiration, Julia - who made food that was simply out of this world, Jan - Our amazing housekeeper who kept our beautiful rooms immaculate, Amy - who coordinated everything and was always on standby and of course Simon and Mercedes who always kept a close eye on the running of the programme. I am so grateful to you all, you made me feel so at ease.

Since leaving Yeotown I have managed to keep things up. It hasn't been easy but we were given an incredible amount of tools, recipes and plans to help us when we got back into the 'real world'.

My new found love for hiking means that I just don't stop walking everywhere and I have even taken up yoga!
