Reviewed 8 April 2014

We go to the Imperial simply because it is the "best there is" in the West of England, the service is very good, and the hotel is maintained to the highest standard. When we go to the Imperial, we come away feeling like we are very special indeed.

We had a wonderful weekend. The room was spotlessly clean and had recently been decorated to a high standard. The food was wonderful and the service excellent. I cant wait to go back there again. The reception Staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Cant fault it.

Room Tip: Rooms with a river view have much more light, so it would be worth paying the extra cost

This was our seventh stay, we now try to visit 2 or 3 times a year and the Imperial never lets us down. The service provided by all the staff, from the moment we walked through the doors to the moment we sadly said goodbye, cannot be faulted, they are friendly, attentive and efficient - looking after our every need. Our newly refurbished room added an extra touch of luxury to an already superb stay. The food in the Arlington Restaurant continues to be the best we have had anywhere, we sincerely hope they never change their chefs. For that matter, we hope they never change any of their staff. Rest assured, we will be back later in the year.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, go for a room with a view.

Thank you for your review following your stay at The Imperial Hotel and may I also thank you for your repeat custom to The Imperial Hotel.

It is also great to read that you, as usual, enjoyed your dining experience with us here at The Imperial; this is something we pride ourselves on so comments such as these are very much appreciated, particularly by our team of chefs.

Of all your welcoming feedback, the praise put on our hard working staff is most pleasing to read and I will be sure to place this on our 'review board' for all to see.

As you have mentioned, our refurbished rooms are certainly scoring highly and we are looking forward completing two more Deluxe Rooms before the summer.

It is also great to hear that you have stayed with us many times before and I very much hope we can welcome you back once again in the very near future.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Imperial. It was easy to book online and the confirmation arrived promptly, and then we got a welcome email the day before our stay giving us contact details. We rang the Imperial to ask a question, and they answered the phone within the first couple of rings and answered our question.

When we arrived check-in was easy and uncomplicated and our room was as promised and it was spotlessly clean and the sheets on the bed felt beautiful. The interior decorations of the whole hotel are traditional and just right for the building. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxing.

The food was excellent and with good choices. The service was the best I've had in any hotel. We never had to look for staff because they were always quietly present, always quietly efficient, and always very pleasant in manner. Even when we arrived back at the hotel late one evening from a life celebration party, feeling somewhat bereft, we were able to order hot drinks and sandwiches without difficulty from a lovely member of staff, and felt much better afterwards.

We definitely recommend the Imperial and we will stay again!

And finally, it's very conveniently located (not just for Barnstaple, but for other areas as well) and easy to find.

The Imperial always gives good value, happy and considerate staff, excellent service, delicious food. Although this hotel is in the town centre it is relatively quiet, has views across the river so you can keep track of the tides, it is extremely comfortable with a guests' lounge with the sort of comfy chairs and sofas you have at home. There is free car parking and it is on a level site with easy walking into the town or along the road to a park along the riverside. The lift works, the rooms are clean and comfortable; it is worth paying the extra for a river view. The service at the bar and in the restaurant is impeccable and the food is beautifully presented, very tasty and there is a very good choice. We shall certainly be going there again and this was our third visit.

Room Tip: Go for a river view.
