“Great Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 April 2014

We stayed in The Barnstaple Hotel on Friday 4th April till Monday 7th April it was a belated honeymoon. What a fantastic hotel, when we entered the hotel you were greeted with a warm welcome and very pleasant manners, we arrived a little early but our room was ready. The food is out of this world, lots of it and nothing was too much trouble for the staff, they would get you anything you requested. All the staff and very polite and very smartly dressed. We would definitely stay in this hotel again. Would recommend it to everyone we know.

Room Tip: We were given a view overlooking the outdoor pool and gardens. Just lovely.

We have just returned from a weekend away at The Barnstaple Hotel, as there were 3 of us we had adjoining rooms on the 1st floor, the main room was classed as a state room and was very spacious with a leather sofa and massive bed, and the 2nd room was a standard double which was also to a high standard. The hotel facilities are 1st class with a lovely indoor pool which we took advantage of and gym facilities which our son used a couple of times. The food was excellent with generous portions and a good choice with friendly attentative staff where nothing was too much trouble. Overall it was good value for money and would have no hesitation in returning in the future.

We visited as a family of grandparents, parents and two children 12 & 9. We shared a superior room with a large, comfortable bed, table and chairs and all of the usual facilities. The room had a balcony, also with table and chairs, overlooking the outside pool. The size of the room was adequate but not spacious. The room was clean and in good condition but the decor was a bit dated. The bathroom was modern and light with a bath and shower in the bath. There was a small amount of corridor noise during the night (midnight to 1pm).
The others shared a standard family room with a smaller double bed and two temporary beds for the children. It was very cramped and not what I would call anything like a family sized room. Otherwise it was similar to our room but without the balcony.
The restaurant is light and airy. The breakfast is buffet style and is excellet with friendly staff available. We ate out in Barnstaple in the evening as the restaurant was fully booked. Best to book a table in advance if you want to eat in.
The leisure facilities are superb with a large, very well equipped gym and a decent size indoor pool with various seating areas, changing rooms (£1 operating lockers) a bar and a sauna. There is also an outdoor pool with sun loungers for the Summer months
The staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. They made us feel very welcome especially in the restaurant.
Overall a very enjoyable stay at a good price.

Room Tip: The superior rooms are well worth the premium.

Stayed for 5 nights from 24/3/2014 in a double room on a DB & B basis. We have stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions at different times of the year. We find it ideally situated for the road networks to explore many locations around north devon. The walk into barnstaple along the Tarka Trail which is 5 mins from the hotel is very pleasant.
The room was of a good standard, clean, housekeeping excellent. We were in room 27 which overlooked the bowling facility next door. Unlike other contributors we were not disturbed with noise. Although the view is not scenic we slept well.
The restaurant was very good. The food varied and of good quality. The staff are friendly and the service excellent. This was delivered under very demanding circumstances as a large party of school children and teachers were also staying and eating at the same time. Despite this a high standard was maintained and staff and kitchen coped very well.
We will definitely be back later in the year.

We stayed here to celebrate our 70th birthdays with our family. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed as we like it, the staff were very amiable and attentive to our needs and it represented good value for money. The rooms were clean and had everything we needed.

Room Tip: Rooms with a view of the pool are preferable.
