“Lovely Hotel”
Reviewed 1 July 2014

Overall the hotel was excellent, the staff were lovely they would do anything for you, my Mum is disabled and the staff couldn't have been more helpful.
The food is out of this world. We had a three course meal every day and there was no problems with the food at all. The breakfast was lovely too, so much to choose from.
It's got two lovely swimming pools one inside and one outside.
I would recommend this hotel most definitely.

Room Tip: Choose a room right near the swimming pool, it's lovely.

I stayed here recently with my husband and my two year old son. The hotel was wonderful from the choice of pools, the food and the first class service. Your staff really do your hotel proud. My sister was also staying with her newborn baby and she said the staff really went the extra mile to help her.

Well done Barnstaple Hotel for supplying such excellent service in an era when it's very hard to come by!

Room Tip: We were right by outdoor pool which was very handy with our little son.

Spent 3nights at The Barnstaple and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Rooms were good and comfy, next to no noise but above all the service from the staff especially in the bar and restaurant was some of the best we have experienced. We have stayed in quite a lot of hotels but the warm, friendly and attentive service was really appreciated. Even when hosting a large corporate event it did not effect the service one bit in the restaurant , which serve some great food. Breakfast was just as good...will definitely go back and if you are looking for a good base then this is the one!

We attended the North Devon Journal Business Awards here at the Barnstaple Hotel. We didn't stay at the hotel, just attended for the meal in the evening I'd never been to this hotel before but would definitely go again. The food was wonderful and the staff efficient and courteous, especially considering the vast number of people, they were amazing. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. There wasn't a single thing that I could have faulted them on. Perfect in every way.

Don't be mistaken by the looks of the hotel looking like a 1970 motel. This is a first class hotel with very comfortable beds, great facilities and excellent staff. Its also great to see a hotel using its roof for solar heating with a power generating display in reception.

The hotel offered bar or restaurant eating faculties, we opted to eat in the restaurant and was not disappointed by the quality, choice and portion sizes.

The hotel has a indoor and external pool with hot stone loungers and a gym area.

The staff were very friendly and well presented and made you feel special every time.

This is our second visit to this hotel and will be back when working in the area.

This was our second visit to the Barnstable Hotel, having been there just over 5 years ago.
Everything from the excellent staff through to the cleanliness of the entire hotel, was superb.
On arrival the reception staff made us very welcome with nothing being too much trouble, our room was ready and absolutely spotless!
The bar and lounge area were very comfortable and not rowdy at all even with the England World Cup game in progress! The service here was excellent as it was in the restaurant.
The standard of cuisine was extremely high throughout our entire 4 day stay, with a varied and high quality menu. The restaurant staff were amazing with their care and attention to detail even when the restaurant was extremely busy.
We enjoyed both the indoor and outdoor swimming pools which were maintained to a very high level throughout and again the staff were very helpful and courteous.
The one drawback is the lack of a lift to the first floor rooms. Being a person with moderate walking difficulties only being able to take one stair at a time, a lift would have made all the difference for me, that said there are ground floor rooms which are fully accessible which we will no doubt book next time we visit. Thank you to all at the Barnstable Hotel for making our visit so enjoyable.

Room Tip: The state rooms provide a lot more space and are definitely worth the extra cost.

As Chairman of The Friends of TEARS association and responsible for organising their final Reunion, I can say without any doubt that this hotel provided us with a fitting venue for our grand finale. I have not heard a bad word said about the service, the staff, the rooms nor the excellent food throughout the weekend. We were all treated very well and I heard that some of the staff said we were the best group of people they had visited the hotel in years ! Had there been another Reunion opportunity we would certainly have returned to the fantastic Barnstaple Hotel. Thank you to everyone concerned for making our stay with you so special.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with balcony overlooking the pool.
