Traditionally, the pannier market was where local farmers, and smallholders would bring their goods and produce in panniers to sell to the general public. Although, there is a market every day, Friday is the day that is nearest to the traditional produce and plants market. On other days a variety of stallholders sell their goods. Wednesday is noted for a range of stalls selling miscelaneous nick nacks, some old, some obscure and all previously owned.

Was lead to believe this was a great market, but wasn’t much different to others, other than being inside

Visited on a wet Saturday. Variety of goods for sale by the stall holders quite limited but no doubt meet the requirements of regular customers

Lovely little shops and cafe's hidden off the high street.
Pannier market accessible from here too, different markets on different days, definitely worth a visit.

We visited here after seeing it advertised in a "to do" guide! Very interesting place to while away a few hours and to pick up a few trinkets !!! Will visit again when next in the area.

During our holiday in Devon we visited Barnstable and the pannier market twice. Lots of stalls, all indoor so great if the weather isn't good, with no duplications so very varied. Interestingly the vendors aren't permanent mending that there'll be different goods on different days. So check what's on before you go as you may find that there's nothing of interest for you, on the other hand choose the right day and you could be in for a treat.
The most interesting place in the vicinity is the side street on the right hand side of the market as you're looking at it from the front, this street is full small shops specialising in artisan foods, cheese, breads etc all good, have a look and I'm sure that you won't be disappointed.
