The story is presented well and for further interested there are mice hidden in the tableaux. It is a small museum but does give you a good understanding of the area.

This was such a worthwhile place to go to. A history of Barnstable though the ages.
As you go through each door you are in different place in time, with life-size models going about their life in that time, the story of where you are and what's happening to listen to and read. Such a lot to see in each area too - you must stop and look around before moving on through the next door!.
You start by seeing a Saxon family and then on through a Medieval Market, 16th Century Merchant ship, Tudor times, the Civil War, etc, etc. up to present times.
Very well done!

Dissapointed at the staff attitude at the heritage centre recently. Although I wasn't vising the exhibition I stopped in to purchase necklace seen in the window for Christmas. Arrived at 9.30 to find it closed even though the opening times are 9.30 on a Friday. Rang the number and was informed that the member of staff due in had rung in to say she was sick but would try and get there for 10.30. They were open when I came back and duly purchased the necklace at £48.50p. On leaving I asked if they had a loo I could use. I was told that it was in the exhibition room and couldn't use it !! Really !! having just spent £48.50 I would have thought an exception could be made !! Not really an attitude to encourage people back....

small place to visit but it is laid out very cleverly within showing the heritage of Barnstaple. Small well stocked shop on the premises.
