“Best Travelodge I've stayed in by far!”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

This Travelodge outshines the other two I've stayed in by far. The room (116) is absolutely huge, looking out over the carpark, but also lovely green fields. Though it is near the road, there's basically no noise at all in the room. The room has everything you need for a comfortable stay, including a bath. It also has a fan and a tv with lots of channels if you feel like a night in. It's 3 miles from Barnstaple town centre, but a taxi is only 6 pounds. The staff are friendly and helpful, and there is an all night garage and a KFC in the complex also. There is also a big Sainsbury's across the road from the hotel, so even though there isn't a restaurant or bar in the hotel, everything you need is quite nearby. I'd stay here again if I was in Barnstaple, which is a lovely location, though you are a little bit limited in what you can do here without a car.

Room Tip: If you have mobility problems ask for a ground floor room as there is no lift

Don't use Room 101 or anywhere near that room. Very noisy with rubbish being taken out early and generator and air conditioning on all night long! Take ear plugs and good luck. New beds are nice but prices have gone up to pay for refurbishment. Travelogue now not vfm!

Thank you for your feedback Bob R. We want all of our customers to have a good night sleep so we are truly sorry to learn you were disturbed by the noise from the generator outside, all of our facilities are required to be quiet and fully functional. We will be sure to pass on your comments to the hotel management team so that they can look into this further.

We had an overnight stay when we were in the area, so that we could visit a part of the north Devon coast that we had not seen for years. You will spot the big BP petrol station before you notice the hotel, which lies behind it. We were received well at reception. The room was clean, quiet and spacious and the bed was very comfortable. There was a breakfast offer - cereal, muffin etc in box. But, that had little appeal, so we went to the nearby Sainsbury store, where there is a café that opened at 07.00. The cooked breakfast there is very acceptable. It's a couple of minutes in the car and is walk-able, but, it is in an area that is geared to cars, not pedestrians.

This was one of the better Travelodges I have stayed in, but bearing in mind it is only a few years old, it still should be fresh and clean looking. It was basic but good enough for an overnight stay.
One of the lamps was broken, the heater didn't work and I had to re tune the T.V, to get any channels at all.The staff were lovely, polite and helpful though. The new bed was extremely comfortable! It was also very quiet considering it was near a busy road.

we stayed here early May for 2 nights. Having never stated in a Travelodge before i wasnt sure what to expect. Check-in was quick and efficient by a very polite lady.

I was pleased that there was a card security door for access to the rooms, made it feel safe. The corridors were extremely clean, no scuffs or anything on the paint work. The room was the biggest surprise. It was very spacious and immaculately clean, not a speck of dust anywhere. The bathroom was spotless. The room lived up to any room you would get in a "highter" rated hotel. I was extremely impressed with bed and bedding. White bedding which was immaculately clean. This was one of the most comfortable beds i have ever stayed in while at any hotel, and i have stayed in some expensive ones but none live up to the comfort of the bed here.

Despite this Travelodge being next to a main road and major roundabout, beside a garage and a KFC, it was extremely quiet and peaceful, no noise at all.

Its in a very convenient location for access to Barnstable and Bideford. The carpark was adequate, never a problem getting a space at any time.

The only tiny thing i will mention is that when we were booking we were offered a "breakfast" inclusive rate, which we didnt take. On arrival i was glad as breakfast is served in a box? Maybe this is standard at travelodges, as i've not stayed in any others.

I would highly recommend staying in this Travelodge if you are looking for somewhere very comfortable, peaceful and in a great location to explore this area. Thanks Travelodge Barnstable for a lovely stay.

Room Tip: we were in room 11, this was a ground floor room at the back of the building, very quiet.

We stayed here at the weekend with our two small children. We have stayed at Travelodges in the past but this was the best yet. The decor was perfect - no scuffs on the walls of stains on the carpets (as is often the case at some Travelodges). The receptionist was very welcoming, the bed was exceptionally comfortable and the room was spacious and welcoming.

My only two negative observations was the clutter outside the bedroom window (undoubtedly overlooked by staff) and the attention to detail in cleaning (there was an empty toilet roll on the floor behind the bin and some plastic rubbish left on the bathroom floor). Also, three towels for a family of four is not really enough.

As is the case with the Travelodge brand, you tend to get what you pay for. However this particular branch has had a recent return and it is one of the best Travelodges that we have stayed in to date.

I stayed with my girlfriend on a wed night as we used it as a base to go surfing at Westward Ho! Online price was £37 if I recall, we did not have breakfast included. Car park was tiny but we managed to get a space early eve. It's free too. Friendly receptionist. It is pretty much located right off the busy main road ( currently undergoing repairs) which concerned me when I realised our room was facing the road on the first floor. I needn't have been worried though as I only heard one motor bike and a lorry the whole night.... And I am a light sleeper!

The room was clean, no grotty curtains, marks on the walls or tired looking bathroom as in recent Travelodge stays around the country. Even a little pot of shower gel! And another pleasant surprise.... Two substantial pillows each! No more trekking to reception to ask for more. New bed....very comfortable and no noise from other guests in the corridor as people came and went.

All in all a marked difference to many of the Travelodge hotels that we have stayed in and a handy base. The town of Barnstaple is a bus ride or 10 min car journey away (45 main walk according to the receptionist) We picked up fresh crossaints from the Spa attached to the petrol garage opp the hotel. Alternatively there is a big Sainsburys a couple of mins drive away.

We are visiting Bristol in the summer.... Choice of two Travelodges within the city centre.... One of which has just been refurbished... That will be the one we book!

Room Tip: Rooms along the front are quieter than you would think!
