“Good place to stay in Durham”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 October 2011

What to do for my birthday treat this year? I wanted to meet with my son who lives in Edinburgh and see somewhere I had never been before for a weekend break. So we went to Durham. The staff at the Premier Inn in Durham were excellent and made us really feel welcome. The rooms were comfortable and quiet and the breakfasts were excellent. It was obviously a popular place as we did have to wait to get a table for breakfast on one of the mornings so they need a larger breakfast/eating area. Everything worked and we had a very enjoyable time. Good to know that Premier Inn supports Water Aid too.

This is probably the best Premier Inn i have stayed in. If your visiting Durham the hotel is centrally located close to restaurants, theatre, shops, cathedral and castle and is walkable distance from the train station and i would recommend travelling to the city by train as parking is pricey. The staff at the hotel are very friendly and super efficient and the rooms very clean. Premier Inn sells itself on providing King size beds but actually they are two singles locked together but you can feel the gap. The rooms are very clean but my only minor quibble would be that trying to get shower gel out the dispenser is like getting blood out of a stone (it was the same in all the rooms i stayed in over a 3 week period).
Likes: Location and Staff
Dislikes : Very poor mobile signal

We must write a review about the experience we had at this Premier Inn in Durham City Centre, my daughter has a severe food allergy and while we were there we enquired about a meal for her. The chef on duty, Neal came out to speak to us and he was more than helpful offering to cook her a special meal that was not even on the menu so that she would be able to eat with us. His manner was not 'oh god what now, I dont have time for this' but more what can I do to satisfy your every need. If it was not for Neal we would have really not enjoyed our visit to this hotel. The management would do well to look after this chef as not many would go to this length just to satisfy one customer. Well done Neal!!!!!!

Clean, bright, exactly as you would expect.

Well located, I walked there from the Railway Station.

Nice staff.

This was the first time I had stayed in a Premier Inn and I was not sure what to expect. I agree with earlier reviews that this hotel is in an excellent city centre location - if you walk up the many steps at the side of the hotel you are in the main shopping area and there are several new restaurants (Slug and Lettuce, Nandos etc) next to the hotel up the steps. There is a good value (£7.50 for 24 hours) car park attached to the hotel and you can leave and return using the same ticket over the 24 hour period. Very friendly receptionist so a good welcome. We had requested a first floor family room and that is what we received. Only difficulty is that the third bed was too small and uncomfortable for our tall 15 year old and so ended up booking another room. Our room was also near the entrance to the stairs and the door to get onto the first floor made a bit of noise as people entered. Apart from that we had a very good night sleep (on a Sunday night). Excellent value for money breakfast - two under 16s can eat free with each adult and they can eat as much (cooked) breakfast as they want. Overall very good value for money and we will use this chain again.

Stayed recently for one night, and found the rooms are very well appointed for a three star hotel.

The beds are comfortable with plush pillows and crisp linen.

The bedroom and bathroom was spotless. The only one tiny criticism was that there was only one set of towels in a double room.

Room Tip: Good budget hotel

Right in the city centre, friendly staff nothing too much trouble. Excellent basis for seeing Durham and surrounding areas

Room Tip: Rooms at the end of building facing cathedral are spacious
