“A great B&B”
Reviewed 29 August 2014

We spent one night in the Flambard Room at this B&B and our only disappointment was that we were not staying longer. The room was quite large, spotlessly clean and very tastefully furnished. It even had a view of the cathedral. The bathroom was also great and a very good size. Jill and Andy were very helpful even allowing us to leave our car parked in their car space until lunchtime on the day that we checked out. The whole guest house is spotless and it is obvious Jill and Andy take great pride in running a quality B&B. There is free wifi and we had an off road car parking space (which we had reserved with them when we made our booking). We will not hesitate to stay here again if we are lucky enough to return to Durham.

This is our second visit to The Victorian Town House and we stayed in the Langley Room (twin room, ground floor), Our room was extremely comfortable, with everything supplied for our visit including a well-stocked welcome tray. The WiFi was great, having 2 routers to ensure good connection in all rooms. The en-suite bathroom was very big with plenty of space, and excellent supply of toiletries.

We received a warm and friendly welcome with drinks and biscuits. Andy and Jill are extremely professional. The entire house is spotless, and run to perfection catering for the needs of everyone. Excellent breakfast choice, to suit everyone's taste, with vegetarian alternatives.

Andy and Jill will be able to recommend eating venues within Durham, but being close to main city you will discover plenty of eating venues to choose from.

Various places to visit in and around Durham, excellent bus route for non drivers. If you plan to visit different locations buy the 'Key card' prior to visiting, go to www.simplygo.com for further details, but remember you can use your Senior Citizen bus pass . We can recommend Beamish (Living Museum of The North) and take a visit to Durham cathedral.

From Durham you can also visit Seaham, Sunderland, South Shields, or Newcastle and many other areas either by bus or car. The bus and train station is just the road from The Victorian Town House.

Thanks for making our stay perfect and stress free, keep up the excellent work Andy and Jill, and wishing you continued success.

My husband and I have just returned home from a lovely weekend in Durham. jill and Andy were great hosts. We stayed in the Flambard room, it was an extremely pretty room, the bed was very comfy and the bathroom well equipped. The breakfast on both days were delicious, lots of fruit etc to choose from. If I had any negatives they would be that there is only one parking spot and on Saturday morning we had to hand around until 10:30 until the guests parked in the spot checked out so that we could park there, the other thing is (and because it was such a sunny weekend we did not need it), but the website advertises a TV and DVD player in each room, ours did not have a DVD player. It looked like the TV had recently been changed and not replaced with TV/DVD player. The negatives are only small and it definitely would not stop,us from returning if we ever go back to Durham. Thank you Jill and Andy for a lovely stay.

Room Tip: Flambard was the room we stayed in , it was lovely.

Very friendly and helpful. Large comfortable room with great view. We stayed in the Beaumont room. Food was plentiful and good choice. Good to see lots of fruit available.

A good location for seeing Durham so long as you don't mind the last little steep bit.

Durham is well worth a visit. Newcastle interesting but it was a bit hot on the day we went.

Room Tip: Beaumont had a good view.

I recently had the opportunity to stay at The Victorian Townhouse for 2 nights in June. I was in Durhamof rom Canada to defend my thesis at the School of Education and I needed a place that would allow me to be well rested and well fed as I prepared for my VIVA. The Victorian Townhouse filled the bill admirably. The single room I had was clean and well appointed, and the bed very comfortable. Breakfast in the mornings was treat, prepared with great attention to detail by the owners Jill and Andy. The coffee (my lifeblood) was awesome and there was an excellent array of choice on the breakfast menu. I would definitely stay there again if I am up visiting northern England in the future.

A little tricky finding them from the train station, but once we were pointed in the right direction it was easy. Andy and Jill were wonderful hosts. Had our bags waiting in our rooms because we arrived a bit early and left to explore Durham. The Flambard room was so comfortable and the bathroom so spacious. Breakfast had so much to choose from with the best porridge ever! Enjoyed the courtyard and garden out back. It was so homey!

Stayed here in the very comfortable ground floor Langley Room on a short visit to Durham.Appreciated being able to park outside and have no steps to climb other than the short flight up to the breakfast room where Jill and Andy serve a first class start to the day.
The location is very good with only a short walk into the City and the various attractions and ideal for the Railway Station.
For my wife's birthday treat that week we dined at Restaurant 17 at Elvet Bridge and would recommend that very highly also.
