“Birthday surprise”
Reviewed 8 April 2013 via mobile

I booked this hotel for a birthday surprise for my husband. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon and although there was a wedding on at the hotel we checked in very quickly and without any problems. Our room was lovely and clean, spacious and with a view of the Durham Cathedral and the river. I was most surprised as we have stayed in large chain hotels that havnt been as nice as this one and a lot more expensive. So central for the centre of Durham too. Breakfast was a fab buffet with a good choice but you could order certain food too. Plenty of everything and very yummy. We had a check out time of 12oclock which was great. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again but next time bring my swimming cossie as the pool and spa looked good !

Lovely friendly hotel, ideally situated for shopping on both sides of the river. Pleasant walks along the river. The hotel is spotlessly clean, and the staff are so friendly and very helpful. Fantastic swimming pool, sauna, steam room and gym. We stayed as part of a bus tour, and we're treated no different from anyone else, as I've heard can be the case in some hotels. Food was great, with lots of choices. I loved my stay in the Radisson, and also found Durham such a lovely friendly city. Hope to visit again soon.

What a great place to stay! Lovely views from the Room of the river, 5 min walk from the hustle and bustle of city centre life! The room I was in was a standard but it had a lot of room, plenty of space, great TV channels and free WIFI. The staff were very helpful and willing to accommodate any request.

The gym was very pleasant, not over run and plenty of machines to use as well as a Steam and Sauna to unwind.

That all in preparation for the exquisite meal at the Filini Restaurant. Beautifully decorated dining area, the staff were very friendly, the food was fresh and very tasty, Hats off to the Chef!

Overall I was very imoresssed with my stay and needless to stay my next stay in Durham will be with the Radisson.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the river!

Was travelling to the north-east on business and my hosts put me up in this hotel (along with other colleagues). It is modern, with a good view from its town-facing rooms (mine looked over the carpark and the hillside beyond - nothing special), and is within easy walking distance of the town centre, with the railway station about a ten minute walk (most of it uphill, and including some steps). Staff were polite, friendly and helpful, even at 6am in the morning when I checked out.

Excellent riverside location. We had a business class room (403) which had gorgeous views of the Castle and Cathedral.
Room was as expected so we had no complaints.
Free drinks in Business Class bar were very welcome after several hours of traffic delay thanks to an accident! Although space was a tad limited we managed to get a seat and enjoyed a few wines / beers.
Location great for walking into town - lots had changed in Durham since I studied there - lots of bars and restaurants in nearby complex although if like us you prefer something a little less chain-like then it is not much further to walk into the city itself.
Breakfast was a little chaotic initially as we awaited to be seated but once we were seated it was fine. Reasonable choices and all kept nicely replenished.
Were too busy to sample the pool / gym facilities so cannot comment on these.
Only one issue really - cannot understand why the business class bar does not operate on a Sunday - would have been nice to enjoy a glass of wine on our 3rd night just as we did on the other 2 nights of our stay - would not think it would have been too much of an issue for hotel to provide this 7 days a week as most other hotels do in my experience.

Room Tip: Business class rooms overlooking river are excellent

Just visited this hotel March 2013. This is the second time i have stayed at this hotel and you cant go wrong. I booked the hotel for a nights stay for a birthday present for my boyfriend. We booked under a January offer so got a good deal, £69 for the 2 of us for one night including breakfast.
Check in was easy and the staff were really helpful and offered advice about the local area. The car parking is £7 for the night stay at the hotel which wasn't bad. This is at a reduced rate for hotel guests. The rooms are nice and modern. Clean rooms with tea/coffee, flatscreen tv, fridge etc and also very spacious. On the night time we went to the square (5mins away) and went to the Fat Buddha restaurant and the slug and lettuce for some cocktails which was nice. Breakfast in the morning was good. There was a good choice and again staff were welcoming and helpful.
Overall a fab hotel for a night away from home, would deffo return.

Been to Durham numerous times but have never stayed at the Radisson before. Excellent location, just a few mins walk to the hub of everything that's happening. Very modern building, very helpful staff and immaculate throughout. We had room 230 which is on the middle floor, and which had a riverside view. Rooms are big, modern and very well looked after, no signs of tiredness whatsoever. Bathrooms are also fab. Very very impressive. Looking forward to a return visit
