Stayed here with a friend and had a fantastic time, what a great city. The hotel is very well located, short walking distance to the centre of town. The staff are very approachable and happy to help with any queries and the rooms are spotless. Only issue is with car parking, it's not that you have to pay as it's a city centre hotel and that's expected, it's that the spaces are quite small so unless you drive a car fit for Tyrion Lannister you may have trouble opening the car door when other cars are next to you.

Stayed for 3 nights over the bank holiday weekend. Excellent location just over the river from the new Walkergate centre. The pedestrian footbridge outside the hotel also gives easy access to the main city centre. A walk along the riverside, although a bit longer, also takes you to the Cathedral and Castle. It's about a 10 minute walk to the station although the less mobile may prefer a taxi.
Excellent friendly and efficient staff. Very spacious and airy lobby. Our standard room with river view came equipped with hairdryer, Iron and Ironing board plus a mini bar, that could be used for personal drinks, and all the usual tea coffee and toiletries.
Breakfast had an excellent hot and cold buffet spread plus daily specials if required. Didn't use the restaurant as it is Italian themed and neither of us are that keen on Italian food.
Bar was a little over priced but you tend to expect that these days in this standard of hotel.
Nice size indoor pool and large gym which we didn't have time to use but was well staffed and well kept.
All in all a lovely stay and would definitely return if ever in Durham again.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view.

Stayed for 4 nights, room overlooking river, views of castle and cathedral, what more could we want!
Food varied, well prepared and always served hot.
Only small criticism would be that the bar is not always staffed....sometimes had to stand and wait for a bar person to arrive.
Would recommend this hotel though.

Stayed here with my fife for 3 nights as a surprise birthday present. Hotel was great, Nice location with some lovely views out over the river, just a 5 minute walk into Durham centre but far enough away that its still quiet. The Spa is great. Spent a lot of time in there relaxing. Hotel itself is very clean and tidy, Staff were all excellent and very helpful. Evening meal was lovely however breakfast wasnt quite as good as the rest of the stay. It all looked like it had just been thrown out in a rush and a lot of it was overcooked. Will be looking to book another stay here next year

My first time at this hotel although my partner stays regularly due to work in the area, The room was big, clean and comfortable but Ii found the tele a bit on the small side. No problems sleeping the bed was very comfortable .The room and bathroom were very clean. Breakfast was good there is plenty of choice My only complaint is the tea was not hot enough, minor I know but my partner says this is the case every time she stays. They get the water from an urn for the tea pot and this is not boiling. I would stay again but probably try the coffee next time.

I have stayed in this hotel on several occasions and have always found it comfortable and with good service from the staff. You can't get a much better location! Easy access to the city centre and a variety of pubs and restaurants.

Stayed at this hotel overnight as was attending a dinner dance at the hotel.
Stayed in a business room which had perks such as free car park and drinks at certain times. A lovely clean spacious room with a view over the river although we were on the top floor so the ceiling was sloping and you had to stand by the window to see out. The only negatives were no biscuits and only 2 tea bags on the tray and no bath in the room. The walk in shower was nice but would have been nice to have a bath too.
Breakfast was served until 12 noon which was lovely as a lot of hotels stop much earlier. Eggs cooked fresh to order with a buffet for everything else, this meant you could have a leisurely brunch to set you up for the day.
