Radisson Blu Hotel Durham

A modern hotel in a historical setting. On the banks of the Wear with a footbridge to access the City the Blu has a great location. It is also walking distance from the station - though more on arriving than departing!!!
Sizeable room with Samsung TV and Sky Sports
Staff helpful and friendly - though telling a weary and slightly stupid guest about the lift key card would save embarrassment!!
You are liable to encounter big groups of both guests and wedding goers
Overall a plus

I have used Radisson Blu hotels many times because they offer a reliably high standard at a fair price. I invariably award 4 stars but I was so annoyed at having to pay £7 to use what appears to be their own , though outsourced carpark that I have given only 2.
Breakfast was OK but although there were ample young happy and underpaid staff it was still chaotic probably due to a lack of management
Everything else seemed OK. But at £99 I would probably have been better off at a Premier Inn across the river and closer to town at half the price for a single night

I'm glad you were satisfied with your stay over all but disappointed you were unhappy with the parking facilities on site. The car park attached to the hotel operates as a pay and display Parking Eye car park however we do cap the rate at reception for in house guests at £7 for 24hours if you choose to use it. I apologise that this charge upset you and hope it didn't cause too much of an inconvenience to your stay. Hopefully on your next visit we can exceed your expectations.
Kind Regards,
Louise

We stayed just on night at the Radisson Blu and enjoyed everything about the hotel.
The desk staff were friendly and very efficient. The room was clean and very comfortable.
We went to the pool and again staff were great and the pool and jacuzzi perfect.
Breakfast was fine although it could have been a bit hotter but was well presented with plenty choice and attentive staff.
Overall a great hotel and we will be back

Great, spacious bathrooms and beds. Good Italian restaurant - Filini - with surprisingly unusual dishes for a chain hotel: try the barley risotto! Lovely staff. Good breakfast, if a little chaotic. Lovely location below cathedral, on riverside. Lively atmosphere.

Positive side, comfotable rooms pool and Spa but rooms no better than Premier Inn. If you book a double room you should get a double bed, not two singles pushed together covered in bedding that barely fits. Standard lamp and desk lamp didn't work, dark and dinghy decor. If you've paid for room only, breakfast is just shy of £15 and not worth the money. Poor quality sausage and bacon and all the English Breakfast buffet not hot at point of service. Water provide for tea not hot, and coffee provided also only luke warm. Poor selection of cold meat and cheese on Continental Buffet. A fridge is supplied in the room but if you wanted to order a bottle of wine for it the cheapest is £19 and they'll charge you £4.50 for delivering it to your room. Parking is not free to guests, no thats an extra £7 per night. We didn't eat in the hotel in the evening, put off by standard of Breakfast and the menu prices. The town centre is only a short walk away with a host of places to eat which are far better value for money. The previous weekend I stayed in a small B&B in Norfolk. The room was brighter, better in room facilities, freshly cooked breakfast with local farm produce, half the cost. I know which one I would use again.

Spent 4 nigths with Saga group, room 128 with good view of river. Excellent room with included fridge, kettle, and bathroom amenities (shampoo, conditioner, lotion, gel). Outstanding spa with steam room, pool, gym. Chlorine in pool was a bit strong, so bring googles. Breakfast has great buffet and you can order omlets and smoothies that take about 10 minutes. Problem was the evening group dinners – we sat at 7:30 and service was extremely slow, the first evening did not end until about 9:30 with only 3 courses. Wait staff was untrained in normal basic serving techniques. Every night we had the same bowl of extremely mushy broccoli and cauliflower, Not sure what the non-group menu was. Wifi was free I rooms and very fast.
