Located on the River Wear with a walking bridge into heart of Durham. Pool facilities and spa,gym were excellent. Get breakfast included,it is expensive daily. Our room faced the River Wear with spectacular view of cathedral and castle. Business class rooms we looked at were not as nice as our regular room. If you do upgrade do it online, more expensive to do it at hotel. Would definitely stay there again.

The hotel certainly lived up to all the reviews mentioned below, with spacious rooms, friendly staff and state-of-the-art facilities. I can't comment on breakfast because my booking through booking.com did not include breakfast, but everything else was lovely. The hotel was clean, quiet, and near enough to the city centre to be convenient. It also isn't too far from the rail station, and if I'm not wrong a taxi from the train station cost five pounds, so relatively affordable!

Didn't have time to use the gym and the pool, but I did check it out and the gym looked wonderfully modern and well-maintained, and lots of people were enjoying the heated pool. (I went in winter)

Would definitely stay in this hotel again!

For the last three years, I have been in Durham most weeks and stay over about once a month.
The city has a couple of good b&bs, but the hotels are mostly poor. The Radisson is a slightly surprising exception.
The location helps, right on the river, and very close to the city centre. It is a bit tricky to find by road, but on foot, a short walk on a footbridge over the river brings right into the middle of things.
The decor is a bit anodyne, but the rooms are spacious and well equipped, the bar is pleasant enough, and the food, which used to be terrible, is now pretty good - Italian in the evening and a breakfast buffet in the morning.
Criticisms would be check-in time, which can be tedious, and the price of breakfast.

Granted I'm not the best navigator, especially when I was driving in ENgland for the first time, but this hotel was really hard to find! To get to the hotel you have to turn into what looks like a big parking garage for a shopping center. It honestly took us longer to find this hotel then it did to drive to Durham from Darlington! Once we found it, we were so happy. It's a beautiful hotel with great staff. The front desk staff were very helpful and explained where everythign in the hotel was. They have plenty of parking available for a small fee and you can enter and exit as many times as you want.
Our room overlooked the front road and foot bridge that crosses the river. The room itself was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom floor appeared to be heated and felt wonderful on cold mornings. Plenty of hot water and the beds were super comfortable. I wish we would have been in Durham for more than 2 nights because this was by far the most comfortable room we stayed in.

Just returned from this really good hotel today.
We were able to check in at 12 o'clock as the room was ready then headed into the city for christmas shopping even though this was for my birthday. The staff were very good, the breakfast was fantastic! We used the car park just under 24 hours and it cost £6.50. The drinks were a bit expensive mind £4.90 for a pint and £5.30 for a Tia Maria & Cola. The leisure club was fine but we found the swimming pool quite cold.

This was my second visit to this hotel and it was just as good. Check in was quick and friendly.
Standard room was spotless and very modern. Wanted to upgrade but no business class rooms left. Decent size rooms with air con/heating. The usual LCD tv, safe, iron, bathroom amenities.
The hotel spa/gym/pool was very busy but still good and clean. Steam room was very "steamy" not sure if it was broke or just not very powerful. My partner managed to speak to the spa and fit me in for a massage even though they were fully booked, i was very grateful for this and it was worth it.
Car parking overnight is only £6.50 which is cheap for a city hotel.
Had a few drinks in the bar and it wasnt too pricey.
My only grumble is with the restaurant we ate their last time for tea and it wasnt great. we chose only to have breakfast their this time. It was a joke, everything was cold and hard or soggy. The scrambled egg was inedible, the bacon was cold, sausages under cooked and hash browns were simply chopped up fried new potatoes... not hash browns then! The toaster left 1 side of break raw and the other cremated, my partner spoke to a waiter who said he told his manager the toaster was broke but no-one would replace it or fix it. The danish pastries were burnt as well. You have to serve yourself tea and coffee which i didnt like and if you wanted de-caf the onyl had instant and hot water to make your own. Pretty poor for a 4 star hotel. Unforntunately you cant beat the marriott brand breakfast. Next time i will go room only and get my own breakfast as it wasnt worth the £10pp.

otherwise a great stay and great staff all very helpful.

We stayed in room 344 on Nov 12th for our 13th yr anniversary and thought the hotel was lovely. The reception staff where very friendly and helpful. The hotel was very clean and in great condition. We used the pool in the morning and again everything was ultra modern and clean. Room was spot on, big, clean, great bed. The price was high for us but we felt it was worth the treat. The manager of this place is top of his game. Durham was fantastic too, beautiful city. DW
