A modern hotel not far from the centre and the station. Large well equipped rooms. Good leisure centre (15m pool). Pleasant staff. Footbridge across the river immediately opposite takes you close to theatre, cinema, shops and pubs. You can see the Cathedral if you look sideways but don't expect brilliant views. Breakfast not bad for a hot buffet. There seem to be queues at times at reception though staff efficient.

Upgraded to business class rooms for ou 2 night stay which is excellent value and recommended as it provides amongst other things upgraded room, free parking and free drinks in executive bar 5-30pm to 7-00pm.
All round very good stay, great location for town and visiting other attractions eg Beamish, Newcastle etc.
Now the hitch executive lounge was closed during our stay so free drinks taken in bar which was not a problem. Bar staff informed us on the first night that all drinks were included in the offer so as draught beer is my normal tipple that's what I had. On second night barman told us that they had made a mistake and that draught beers were not included. He stated that it was their mistake as when the executive lounge had been closed the details of the offer had not been explained to the bar staff. He assured me that as it was the hotel's mistake I would not be charged for the previous nights drinks and he would make sure that it did not appear on my bill.
However on checking out the drinks were showing on my bill and I had the embarrassment of challenging this in an open reception area. The gentleman checking us out, Tomassz, finally agreed to remove the drinks charge but informed me that he would check my account of the events with the bar manager making me feel as though he disbelieved me.
i could understand his need to do this if the hotel had not already been aware of their mistake but as this had been identified and acknowledged the previous night by the bar staff this should not have been neccesary.
A mistake on the bar staff's part compounded by a lack of communication between hotel departments marred what up to then had been a first rate experience and that is why the customer service rating I have given is low.

I was very pleased with this hotel. Although this trip was a leisure trip with my family, I am a regular business traveller and so am used to 4 star hotels with some great staff. The difference here is that not just some, but all the staff we encountered here came across well. I came away happy and would recommend this hotel.

Stayed here for one night whilst on business in the Durham area - what can I say, this hotel is fantastic!

I am a fan of the finer things in life, in particular modern, luxury hotels, and this hotel ticked all the boxes. The room was clean, modern and a very nice place to sleep in. The buffet breakfast in the morning was delicious, and is a short walk away from the city centre and railway station. And the service from the staff was courteous and professional.

Overall, I am very impressed with this hotel. I will definitely stay here again the next time I am in Durham - recommended!

Located on the River Wear with a walking bridge into heart of Durham. Pool facilities and spa,gym were excellent. Get breakfast included,it is expensive daily. Our room faced the River Wear with spectacular view of cathedral and castle. Business class rooms we looked at were not as nice as our regular room. If you do upgrade do it online, more expensive to do it at hotel. Would definitely stay there again.

The hotel certainly lived up to all the reviews mentioned below, with spacious rooms, friendly staff and state-of-the-art facilities. I can't comment on breakfast because my booking through booking.com did not include breakfast, but everything else was lovely. The hotel was clean, quiet, and near enough to the city centre to be convenient. It also isn't too far from the rail station, and if I'm not wrong a taxi from the train station cost five pounds, so relatively affordable!

Didn't have time to use the gym and the pool, but I did check it out and the gym looked wonderfully modern and well-maintained, and lots of people were enjoying the heated pool. (I went in winter)

Would definitely stay in this hotel again!
